In all the time I've lived at my current address never had any window cleaner knock the door or leaflet drop, one of my reasons for starting up, had a leaflet put through my door offering first clean for free, coincidence or not all competition I guess, no one owns the streets, bit concerned as I'm new to this.

I own the streets! Simple!

In all seriousness it's entirely upto the customer who they use.

You will meet the odd muppet that claime to do 10'000 houses a week and the industry response is to roll your eyes, put your headphones back in and cary on with what you're doing.

Welcome to the forum.

Cheers mate, ha I might take up the offer of 1st clean free lol
Keep an eye out for who takes them up, knock they're doors for work, make you life easy. Usually only the big companies can afford to do this, I certainly couldn't

Don't get dragged in to the first clean free or price war - you will regret it and end up with a load of muppets as customers. I've been undercut a lot recently and lost quite a bit of work from a company flyering new estates and the surrounding streets, if they want to clean a 3 bed detached for 8 quid crack on, I stick to my prices and they can take it or leave it - I don't care what people say you will not get a good quality, reliable service for a bargain price and I want the customers who appreciate the effort I put in. When I started up I was told there wasn't a reliable regular window cleaner in my area, I've seen well over a dozen since I started and it's a small village. Set out your stall, stick to your guns and keep that happy smiling face!!!!

they can try and steal your work but truth is you know when you have a good customer when they say some window cleaner offerd me a free clean but im happy with you /emoticons/smile.png. but honestly who on earth would do a free clean. as i would not have a window cleaner back for a second clean for a price if that was the case lol

What's the difference offering a free clean, paying a canvasser or buying a round. It's a business expense in order to build a business, they will be well aware that some people will take the free clean then sack them off but in the long run it will work. It's not for me, I think it devalues your business and attracts the wrong sort of customer.

If it didnt work they wouldnt do it.

Im guessing they dont have as many vans on the road as they do by being stupid.

Im sure the free cleans work for them

What we should all do is when Mr and Mrs Barterer (Gumpta, Patel, Hassan etc) call up is just say....

'Sorry I really cant fit anyone else in, i'm just a small firm, here's my friends number, he's got a free first clean promotion'

That should keep him out of your hair for a while. /emoticons/smile.png)
