Being Prepared For Tomorrow

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I've not had a good day :mad:My wife and eldest daughter went to the o2 to see Justin Bieber straight from school yesterday leaving me with the other kids and the baby. Spent the evening in chaos until the wife got home at about 1.30am :gush:

Got up this morning and realised that I'd taken absolutely no precautions against the cold. Tried to fill my tank up and the transfer hose was frozen solid. Thawed that out with a few kettles of water, filled van up and set off to the first job.

Arrived and hose was frozen. Didn't dare turn the pump on. Decided to use the backpack. Again, frozen solid.

Gave up and went to Argos and bought an oil filled rad with thermostat and frost protection feature. Been defrosting the van since then.

I won't be making that mistake again o_O
Sounds like a right headache, sorry to hear that mate.

Sometimes you just have to write a day off.

I'm a tradder and also internal cleaning uptown so don't start the windows till about 9:30-10:00.

Only precautions I took was making sure I had my body warmer, gloves & long johns/rash vest on

Good luck for tomorrow

Well yesterday I survived unscathed and did well.

Today = poop.

Went in for 10, still -2. Icy pavements and slippery driveways. System worked though. That's until one of the pencils froze. Had to bite the hose to break up the ice. Got it working. Rested the pole against a wall to get a drink, went back, brush had frozen to the bricks. Pulled it off, went round the back and leant it against a wall whilst I went to sort a snag out. Pulled it and the pole bounced off the wall and smashed one of the levers in half on the bottom section so I've had to order spares.

4 hours in when the temp hasn't got about 2 degrees all day it's back to freezing floors and man parts.

Called it a day. Thank god the freeze is over for the rest of the week. Bloody hate his job until spring!

Doing last job in a mo then home

Oh and wearing normal trousers, trainers, tshirt and hoodie

Yeah, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I had a nice day with the mrs and the baby once I'd been out and picked up a heater and a few other bits. After my eldest daughter's birthday yesterday, it's my youngest daughter's birthday today so I've set up her new iPod touch and have been playing with a new Star Wars toy she got

Well I earned £105 sitting in a warm lorry. Only went about 75 miles. Driving around in a tee shirt. Didn't earn as much as I would on the glass but I don't care!

Just brought a blanket to wrap around some of my hoseline in the van. This morning, made the mistake of leaving pole and hose in van over night so had to defrost it indoors by wrapping the hoseline around the radiator for half hour! Oh well you live and learn.

Brought backpack in overnight though. Otherwise it could play up if the motor/remaining water is frozen.

Anyone else have similiar issues? Sorry havent read the whole thread if its already been posted

Wow thats a busy 24 hours. which rad did you go for and is it portable?

It doesn't end there either. It's my dad's 60th tomorrow

It was £39.99 in Argos. I'll find a link in a minute. It's portable in the sense that I can lift it in and out of my van as and when it's needed. I'm just running an extension lead through the letterbox to my drive.

easier option is what my mate does. buy a cheap inverter on ebay for 25 quid, then buy a tubular heater thats 150watts or about that. install a split charge relay to a battery and have it running from that but on a timer. kick the timer in from around 1am-3am then again from 5am-8am. most the stuff will be defrosted and working fine, he used it every night this week and had no issues.

I installed an outdoor plug on my driveway behind where I park my van, made a short extension cable and run a heater in there all night, can turn it on and off with a remote socket switch from within the house, it's worked a treat this week and the heat inside the van has also helped with the cold engine starting in the morning, it seems to turn quicker when I've had the heater on all night. All my transfer hose is protected by some pipe cladding, it still freezes in extreme temperatures but helps to about -3 I think. Next job is to box in my IBC with a decent amount of insulation and have a heater on with my RO unit in the shed. .

Oh dear, sounds like your in high demand fella. Nice one. i need a portable one that doesn't need plugging in really. or one u charge. Don't know if there is such a thing.
