Any tips for wording price increases guys?

I've got some VERY outdated houses I inherited years back. Some are £9 when they should be £14 etc. I understand I can't just whack it up £5 or I'd have an exodus!

But at least a £1-2 increase around the board for all customers won't hurt even if I loose a few.

Any recommendations on wording the increase in a letter?

Just tell them that due to the cost of living, materials etc going up constantly and you haven't put their prices up for X amount of years unfortunately you need to put their prices up in line with that to be able to make a reasonable living

Most customers are probably employed so should understand about pay rises etc

If not sod em

If you lose a few but all the rest are paying a bit more you will still be better off and can quote higher when you fill their spaces

Blame it on brexit.

But why you need to justify price increases I don't quite understand, just say as from your next clean your new price will be £xx and definatly don't apologise for the increase. Start with underpriced jobs you don't really like to do and go for it, if it needs to go up by a fiver then put it up by a fiver. I presume new customers are coming along all the time and your not underpricing them, so if you lose the odd one they will soon be replaced.

I could do with a copy of that Damo..gonna stick some of my old customers up

I'll have to nick a copy when i next pop up your gaff mate

Same here, haven't put prices up since I started so some of my customers are underpriced due to inexperience!

If you don't mind PMing me Damo that would be useful [emoji1360]

The one suggestion I would er, suggest is to put them up at the beginning of a new year, so this January.

The reason for this is I've noticed over the years, is that when I go back to work after Xmas, quite a few of my customers ask me if the price has gone up. Or in other words, they are expecting it /emoticons/smile.png

Whist out earlier today had a custy of 3 years say "now i hope you dont mind me saying this but you haven't increased your rates in the time you have been doing my windows and i think you should because i dont want you going under and i have to get someone that im not happy with". I explained that everyones rate is being increased minimum of £1 maximum £2 depending on job.. told him i appreciate his concern etc and explained that whilst as a traditional window cleaner the overheads are pretty much zilch compared to the upkeep etc of wfp and i have bared the cost of that whilst going through the transition and after 2 years of hearing positive comments and refusal of traditional cleaning it is now time to increase the rates.

He said "son if you use that patter when you tell people about your price increase i cant see you having a problem"

Problem i thought.. tbf without sounding harsh i couldnt give 2 hoots because they are going up regardless as were not a charity

Thanks for that i said to which he gave an extra twenty for christmas tip..

Having over 600 custys some 2wk some 4wk its about time we all had a wage rise for all the effort and privilege we provide

It is nice when a custy thinks of you instead of thinking of themselves for a change [emoji38]

Guys I took over houses that were underpriced. I believe they are underpriced because window cleaners don't have a policy. I have printed off a letter on card and give it to my customers every November. The reason for this is if they are not happy with the increase they have time to find a new cleaner. I can confirm I have never lost a customer in 4 years as they know my system and expect the increase. This is a draft of the notice I give them:

Dear Customer

Notice of Price Increase

In line with Government National Living Wage

New charges will commenced from January 1st 2017 through to December 31st 2018

Fixed 2 yearm

Your new window cleaning charge will be £0000

Thank you for your valued customers

Keith

Phone number.

I have no problem increasing £1 every 2 year. And maintains a competitive price.
