Just reading my local buy and sell fb page there.

There's a general diy guy offering outdoor tap fitment for 60 quid. This was today (almost Xmas!) And he's got like 90 replies already.

How long do these take to fit? Looks like a potential for bad weather days maybe.

As in drilling through the wall and feeding a pipe to outside and getting a tap on it? Could be an hours work. How much is he charging?

About 10 minutes when I done it, I got a kit from homebase drilled a hole where I wanted it and plumber it into the same pipe as the washing machine and fitted the tap outside that was 4 years ago and so far no leaks or anything.

He's taking 60 quid in central Scotland @meridion so for you guys it'll be more like 80 plus I'd imagine.

I'd have to look into insurance and if I need a licence of any sort to do so but my dad who's 70 odd done mine in an hour yes.

I googled 'outdoor tap fitter' my arears etc and there is zero competition at all.

This is doable chaps. With the right regulations followed. I have a plumber buddy who'd happily take a days wages to show me all the variations

@meridion I'd love to,for authenticity. But that page has 60,000 odd members. I tried trolling back but it's way back obviously.

He got a hell of a lot of feedback, and done so in summer to the same effect. I was too busy with this that week to think about it much I guess.

Plumbers will charge loads for this service, early days but could be good for us so thought I'd share it.

I'll try hunt for post later but the posts go back in like every 2 mins...That's own busy the page is.

There's a saying

Jack of all trades

Master of none

What are you

I'm a window cleaner @peter rogers

Hence why I've been focusing on ranking my 'window cleaning' website high and with a view to further 'window cleaning' canvassing where I reside.

What's wrong with thinking outside the box though?

Gutter cleaning, patio cleaning, soft washing, roof cleaning..at one point or other over time each and every add on wouldn't have been specifically a 'window cleaning job' until someone decided to add it to their hand. It is very telling that many of these jobs are done by more than one trade.

A multi tradesman covers whole areas of work, some they won't have had much previous in.

It was an idea..

It's a simple job. I fitted one in my house

BUT are you insured if anything goes wrong? damage to brickwork etc

I agree though business is business if you can find a way to make better money than windoes then why not

@adamangler merry Christmas pal

I haven't looked into it at all, just seen a massive demand locally for it so figured I'd share it. With no keyword searches locally coming up on Google etc.

Main focus for me is local work, big houses and commercial but for some on here right now..they maybe have space, time or qualifications to jump right into something like this.

It's a thought was all,but it's not anymore unrelated to window cleaning than half the other add ons I hear about.

We do wasp nest treatment as an add on. Not connected at all to window cleaning except we spot them when cleaning.

@Chris33 do what you like mate

No one can tell you what works and what doesn't in your area but of you find something in demand why not exploit it

Be prepared for the worst scenario, Drilling into pipework, cutting into copper pipes and ballsing it up, water everywhere, Some will be straight forward, anything like mine , very awkward, very tight space, Its alright doing it at home, But most will want copper pipe fittings to join tap outside. ive seen a few with the Washer hose coming out of wall to connect up to a tap screwed onto the wall, DIY. job.

Lots would have this work done , you will need to be confident fitting to different water pipes.

Whats your back up plan when water starts to fill the kitchen floor , flooding it, HHEE HEE. Happy Days.

Go for it. Not all will be as simple as drilling a hole in the kitchen wall , Adding a Self Cutting Tap kit. from your diy store

Good luck chris33,

Whatever brings in the cash is worth considering.

Personally I like to stick with Windows - I know nearly precisely how long it's going to take, hardly anything can go wrong & I know I can do it well and the customer will be super pleased with the end result and no call backs to sort any issues the client has.

The only add on I do is gutters and even then it's them who enquire, I don't offer (unless I see the gutter is blocked and water gushes over and marks all the windows)

If you've seen a potential gap in the market & you're confident you can fill it then why not boost your income.

Hope it works out - in fact I need an outside tap fitting if you're in my area::): but I warn you it's mega complicated !

It's always good to look where the competition is low . If you're up to it why not ? Personally I should offer sign cleaning more , especially after going hotwater. I like niche work .

I have just had a tap fitted in my garage last week for a new RO system.

The install was a little more complicated than just an outside tap as the pipe work was run out my utility room up the end of my garden then run inside my garage which is detached from the house and a tap fitted inside and fully insulated it cost me £220.

When looking for someone to carry out this work I searched for a plumber not a window cleaner.

My point being stick to window cleaning and build on that. There will come a point when your round is full and earning good money the ease and consistency of repeat work will far out way the agro of add on's.
