A bit off topic, but this is Chit Chat. Just wondering all my wonderful windy chums, what books do you love and why?

We all know that lulling around in front of the TV all evening is damaging, thats why sometimes I like to unwind with a good book to read.

A great one I just read was Dying to be Me by Anita Moorjani. This lady basically had cancer, died and then came back and healed herself completely. What she experienced is incredible to read, so I won't spoil it if some of you go on to read it.

Whats everyone else reading? Are you reading?!

Sounds a good book, Life affirming. Not the usual type of book I'd pick up either.

At the moment I just started reading 'think' it's a book that goes over the basic principles of philosophy and will hopefully impart enough beginners knowledge in me that if I pick up a more advanced book I should be able to have a vague understanding of the concepts.

The book I finished reading last night was the first book of 'the game of thrones'. I've watched the tv series and as you can imagine it's enjoyable read if you're in to the genre. After that I've got one book 'azincourt' by Bernard Cornwell or a titanic book on Horatio nelson I've had since November and I've been avoiding picking up because as engrossing as I'm sure it will be, I think it'll take me a good few months to finish.

My son persuaded me into reading a book a little while back. It was called 'swan song'. I think the author was rob mcgibnon or something like that.

It was a thousand pages of pure joy, the best book I've ever read.

Its set after the apocalypse and is a fictional look how different gangs and people fight for power.

Strongly recommend this. Not for the thickos, but great if your intellectual like me

Tolkien..not just lotr and the hobbit but all his other works including the obscure hard to find stuff

First read hobbit..lotr and the silmarillion in 1st year senior school so about 11 years old and was hooked

I know pretty much everything on this website without reading it..extremely sad ain't I ??

The Encyclopedia of Arda

I have around 600 books on my kindle. Love reading.

All time favourites: Stephen King, Douglas Adams, Jean Paul Sartre and Terry Pratchett

AND of course Charles Bukowski ! /emoticons/smile.png

I usually read non fiction books about Iraq and Afghanistan. Most recently I've read sniper one and a million bullets. Sniper ones about PWRR in Iraq and a million bullets cover the entire first 6 afghan tours.

Mrs got given 50 shades of grey when it first came out. I got bored one day and read it, it was ****! Can't see what women see in it[delusional]

Been married so long now that reading is the highlight of my day lol

No seriously after nearly 20 years married we are now into that s&m stuff....

She Sleeps and i Masturbate:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

British birds, I read just about every book published when I was a child then the more specialised stuff as I got older British birds in aviculture and falconry, used to breed British finches and flew birds of prey.

Bet you was as to chicken to say it to her face lol

I know they are good films in their own right but the hobbit and lotr are so different from the books i can't treat them as film versions of the books

Characters that don't exist in the books and made up storylines

I have never seen a film version of any book that is true to the book

Also never seen a film of a book that tje characters/settings look how you previously imagined

I agree. I know Hollywood thinks there has to be a live interest but what was the point of Aragorns? That ruined it for me when liv Tyler came in as Arwen. They could have scrapped her role to make time for tom bombadil. If it wasn't for him the hobbits would have never made it through the haunted forest st the start. Priorities Peter Jackson!

The same with Radagast..he is only mentioned in the hobbit but plays a big part in the film..and don't get me started on Legolas

Their ponies bolted in the film not eaten by trolls like in the book

Hobbits are described as rotund and wearing bright colours and bilbo is supposed to be about 50

That is nothing like Martin Freeman's character

Mostly WWII or science fiction and fantasy. Currently: Bad Money, War Beneath the Sea: Submarine Conflict During World War II, The Irda (Dragonlance Lost Histories), Inside the Third Reich, The Cavalry 1939-1945 and Medieval Warfare.
