New to PW few questions...

Hi all, I've been looking into getting into the pressure washing business for a while. I've been asked by several of my clients if I do it and until now I have turned them down. This forum has been great at answering many of my questions but I'd just like to clarify a few things.

1) It seems the common consensus that for a good thorough and fast clean 21lpm and pressures over 3k psi are best for fsc and that Honda engines are best, however I have found this unit from Rutland pumps:

"Briggs and Stratton, 16hp 250 bar(3600psi) 21lpm interpump."

Briggs & Stratton 16HP V-Twin Petrol Pressure Washer 250 Bar 21LPM Interpump WS252

Is this a good machine? And is it a good machine for the price with £1k off? Any other suggestions?

2) nozzles: this is where I'm getting a bit unstuck, with all the information that I have read my mind is getting a bit boggled. Just how many types are there and what is used for each purpose? I'm a bit of a perfectionist and am worried about using the wrong nozzle/pressure for different surfaces and either damaging them or not cleaning them sufficiently.

I'm sorry for the long post but after spending hours trying to glen what I can my mind has officially decided to stop working. A lot comes with experience as with other businesses but a good shove in the right direction to start with is always a huge help.

Just to add, to start with I'm just looking at driveways/patios, paving/concrete/tarmac. But am looking to expand into as many areas as possible in time. Best to start small.

Thankyou in advance /emoticons/smile.png

Looks tidy! Where could I source something like that? A brief skim on the tinterweb and the most I can find is high pressure 15lpm, and most of those are the same price or more than the b&s that I put the link to. /emoticons/unsure.png also is that a soft wash setup that's next to it? (Just testing my product recognition lol :') )

That's an awesome machine I've got one very similar but with the barrow trolley , speak to Ben about what you are doing he will give you sound advice on what you need , I had a Honda with 21 ltr pump before and that Briggs/ Stratton is light years ahead of the Honda in all ways , quieter, better on fuel , lovely machine , the Honda will not give a genuine 21 ltr performance , I have run the Honda next to the Briggs the Briggs supplies more than 21 ltr the Honda is probably 18 max ask Ben he will explaine it all to you , ime not knocking the Honda it's a nice machine it's just not up to the power of the Briggs , 13hp Honda isn't powerful enough to supply 21 ltr you have to run it flat out and it still won't supply it , the Briggs on half throttle will do what the Honda will flat out , and before someone said there is a problem with the Honda I can assure you that there isn't, don't listen to the likes of jet Mach and the other company on eBay whey talk a load of bull . I have several friends that since I've had my Briggs have seen how good it is and have sold their hondas and bought Briggs , theses engins are made by Mitsubishi not like the cheap and nasty Briggs that you get on a lawnmower , yes they cost more than a Honda but are well worth it , get any dealer to run up both side by side you won't buy the Honda after seeing the difference

13HP Honda GX 390,

390cc's vs

Briggs V twin 480 Cc's

Not really apples for apples.

Great engine those Vanguard Engines

3 year Commercial warranty

Thanks, so they're both good engines, but one is a bit better and so costs a bit more? If you had the choice which would you go for, the Briggs? What sort of price difference are we talking about if it's a few hundred then I'd go for the Briggs but if it was more like half the price I might go for the Honda.

To be honest I wreckon the Briggs 16hp would be the one to go for

It would put approx 200 quid on the cost against the Honda GX390

yes Daniel but the Honda gx640 equilavent off the Briggs is better and better build quality

No one can beat Honda in my opinion there all I use

13HP is gross power you won't get that from an engine on a test bed with out air filter etc, your probably looking closer to 11HP as nett power.

Thankyou all, I think I may well go for the Briggs, unless I find something a lot cheaper. I think it's best to overkill slightly than to run the risk of being underpowered. I already have some customers lined up that have big areas that need PWing that are also very grimey! As well as the fact that i have a very busy window cleaning round I need to get the job done as quickly and as good as I possibly can.

Thankyou all for your input so far /emoticons/smile.png
