Do I need to actually keep a log to prove what the mileage was at beginning of day and end of day or just record it was x amount of miles that day in total

Well on the gov website it doesn't give any guidelines. From what I've read some people have suggested you need to record every trip where you started to where you went.

I think that's not practical for winow cleaning as you could make 15 or so short trips per day.

You would be better asking an accountant as I do not know the answer.

I personally record the daily mileage on each day into george. I suppose it would match up to what work i habe done that day which is also logged in george.

They'd probably like it if you did but as Adamangler said its not really practical. I mark my mileage 6th April, mark it 5th April next year and subtract to know yearly mileage. It's simpler for me though because I use the van soley for work.

Either a percentage of all costs, depreciation servicing, fuel etc, with a personal mileage, or 45p per mile for the first 10k miles and 25p per mile there after. Strictly speaking you are meant to log all trips to claim the mileage allowance, however a general daily log should suffice

I would say if itd a car you use for personal and work you would need to be more carefull as you need to how what percentage of your mileage is work related. Likewise if you use a van and its your only vehicle. Its highly unlikely if it's your only vehicle you never use it for anything personal I.e nipping to shops etc. 80-90% work related would look more realistic in this case. If you own a van and a car like I do it would be easier to prove the van is 100% for work. Remember trios to the suppliers and doing leaflet drops, going to quotes etc is work related not just cleaning windows.

If on doubt it pays to keep the most accurate records you can.
