Winch Rollers / Transit Connect / PowerUp Reel

If I get the PowerUp reel and fix it to the floor of my Transit Connect, ideally, I would want to keep the back doors closed (locked) when I go off to do my cleaning. This means that I prob need to fit rollers in the floor or in the back door of the vehicle. If it goes in the floor, I would need another roller on a swivel underneath the van BUT with the Transit Connect, the spare wheel is in the way from the quick look that I had. It appears to be simpler to put a roller low down in the door BUT the door has a curve in it at the base !

Has anyone successfully done this on a Transit Connect only. (Its a bit easier on the bigger vans as there is more space underneath).

You could remove the spare wheel and put it inside the van. You could have a bracket made to hold the wheel up against the side or front bulkhead (if you have one.)

You could try shutting the doors on the hose and see if it restricts the flow. I've worked this way from a Astra and connect with no need for holes in the floor

That's what I do with my connect, shut the left door first then hose under the shut right door.

When I had a caddy van, I had it like that. I had a hole in the floor, and a plastic pipe with a flange that fitted in it to soften the edges. The hose reel was mounted directly above it so the hose went directly down the hole. There was a hose roller mounted underneath at a 45 deg angle to guide it under the bumper and that was it. Was brilliant, I should do it on my current van- it's annoying bending down all the time to wind in and lift it into the van.

just drill a hole in the side of you van , fit a water filler cap and off you go no need for rollers

Very good setup, better than mine was. I like the rollers. Does anyone know if it's possible to fit a roller like in the above video but that moves side to side so you don't have to guide it on by hand?

Hi Spruce, Yes I considered that but I am very short of space inside unfortunately so that option is unlikely.

just wondering, do you have any problems with trip hazards with it coming out at that height?

no mate not a thing , if you think like that then you best stop wfping unless your going to either park on privet drive ways or make something that lifts the hose up and over the path fully from your van , we don't even bother with cones any more ,

waste of time putting them out as if people trip up there still going to sue you weather theres a cone out or not and I found when the cones were out people were so busy looking at them they tripped over the hose

That is great. I havn't seen that video before...lots of similar ones but that one looks spot on. I need to take a good long look underneath where the spare wheel sits to see what my options are. Thanks

That's a very interesting set up noddy and has given me some additional idea. Thank you.

Thanks guys, the only issue that I have with this is if I need to pull out some extra hose to reach just a little further around the house, I would have to return to the van, open the door and pull more off the reel. I hear you say, just pull more out than you need but I don't want to drag around, have lying around, more than I need to. Appreciate the reply though, thanks guys.

Great you tube vid Spruce....that would do very nicely thank you. Have to give the underside of the Connect a really good look to see how I can get around that spare wheel issue.

The cleaner who fitted this to his van is on the other forum. This one has been in operation nearly 5 years and he finds he has to regularly oil the rollers even although he greased them up originally.

The reason for having the rollers in the center on the van is that the rollers and hose end stay a little cleaner. If the are either left or right then they get a lot more road grime thrown up at them.

You could be tempted to remove the spare wheel and use one of those aerosol puncture repair kits. I would advise against that. If you read the instructions that come on the can you will see why. (You have to find the puncture in the tyre to start with and then follow the instructions on how to get the sealer into the leak.) Once you have used the sealer the tyre has to be replaced with a new one.

For me one of the biggest issues I see on my round is the number of times a day I wheel my hose reel out the the furthest point and unreel my hose around 3 or 4 corners back to my van. I couldn't do that with a fixed hose reel.

Doing it this way saves me so much time and energy. Energy is something I'm lacking ATM.
