Hi. Put a free ad on yell.com. Got a phone call this morning asking me to upgrade to premium. Apparently 7000 people searched for a window cleaner in my area last year. It cost 24quid a month but you have to pay for 12months (they do it like a loan for a years payment). Has anyone had much success with yell.com. I thought it was out dated nowadays but the woman on the phone was promising the world!

Hi Matt,

I had the same thing. The girl I was speaking to said that yell got 60 enquiries a month local to me and she could get me the vast majority. I know they'll have their own targets so i took it with a big pinch of salt and then decided not to go for it. I haven't heard anyone saying it's great for picking up new customers, that's not to say that it doesn't though. I'm as interested as you are to find out.

When was the last time you used Yell to find something?

Probably ages ago if ever. The people from yell are salesmen and thats what they are good at taking your money.

I have a free listing on yell a good few years ago they tried to sell me a paid listing with yell the price reflects the position.

A heavy wait listing is the top 1 it use to be around 2k a year not sure the price now then the price drops so position 4 or 5 will be say £20-£30 a month.

The higher you are the more you pay but once position 1 has been sold they can't resell it.

For me I don't see the point in paying for a directory listing and be in 4th,5th or 6th etc all you will pick up is the work no one wants and thats if your lucky.

Would never pay for it. But I do get a few calls a year from the free listings. All I think is when I want something I put my post code in and it brings all the closest business to me.

So if I put my post code and put window cleaners in I come top. What brilliant for work on your door step

I had a heavy weight ad for 2 years, that put me number one in two areas when people searched window cleaning it cost me £13/ month. In two years I never had one customer or enquiry who told me they'd got my number from yell.com.

My advise, save your money

84.6% of all Yell users make an enquiry on 62.8% of all enquiries.

Off the 18'000 residential users on the NG4 area 71.3% of all Yell users made a purchase on 46.8% of all quotations provided.

98.4% of all Yell.com sales staff bend the percentages to their benefit to close 77.6% of deals.

Green made up 99.2% of all the above statistics cause he was. 14.2% bored tonight!

I have a free ad with yell. Just to add web link really. Still have a free add for an old business. Get a couple of calls a year from. That's all it ever was from yel less than a dozen in a good year.

Google is how people search for anything now.

Depends on the quality of your listing. And it helps with your website ranking. I still haven't paid for a premium account though.

Saying that there must be a reason the big boys pay for number 1.

Hi Matt I stupidly pay £165 a month to yell.com in the last 2 1/2 months I have had two phone calls went to price the jobs up and they were £30 each so losing quite a bit of money

Phone them up and cancel it pretty sure you can as you were promised the earth and promised returns have not been realised . Stupidly I signed up a few years ago for a paid add but cancelled it within the first 2-3 weeks

I have had a free add with yell for well over 10 years and probably had 10 enquires and most likely only 2 jobs booked in .

A website is the way to go and can be done very cheaply with the likes of yola.com and a free option is a business facebook page a carpet cleaner I know has seen his business sky rocket with only using facebook he has loads of reviews and star ratings which has helped him because of the quality of the overall service he provides

Waste of money.the top 4 places are sponsored adds and I'm sure the no 1 spot is over£2000 now and then goes down in price to no 4. After that are the weighted adds that's where everyone pays £240 + vat and as a example if there are 10 of you in my area there are actually more the top of that list will be no 5 soon as someone does a search for a window cleaner after there Search you will then be no 10 and no 6 will then be 5 and so on. And the other bull is when they give you the stats for your add it's like you have had 24 leads this month those stats also included the 24 ppi calls you have received. If you want to learn the hard way to each there own. If you have£240 plus vat to spend sign write your van or get some flyers printed. Also that is for local only if you want to cover bigger areas you have to pay for add on areas. Yell is in name only now as it was bought by a Spanish company called Hibu and they kept the name as it was a nown branding.

I must of got one heck of a deal then I am number 4 sponsored for Plaistow or e13 window cleaners and boosted (usually top 6) Inc sponsored for Beckton not e6 and that costs me 17 per month and like I say I don't look at stats I go off emails and calls I get and I would say 1 decent a week.
