Holidays

I was just wondering how the holidays would work or time off.. if you have a tight round and book a weeks holiday how are you supposed to catch up.

Say you had customers who is used to having there windows done on a certain day of every month at a certain time and you take the 10th-17th off for any reason how would you fit them in your busy round when your back because you would be overlapping and also they wouldn't of had there windows cleaned on the day they was supposed to

Just asking as starting up soon and trying to get as much info as possible about running he business (plan to take a couple holidays if I can)

Once i am back from a short break or holiday i will work 6 days a week until fully caught up and keep it that way until the weather dictates otherwise as it does .

In my opinion its a big mistake telling customers you'll be round on certain days.

I tell my customers I get around roughly 6-7 weeks. If a holiday is due, I will tell them I'll be roughly 1-2 weeks late.

This way you don't even have to try to 'catch up'.

If the customers need to know when you are due because of acess issues, then I will just send a text the evening before.

This method gives you flexibility. If weather stops you or you fancy a day off, not a problem as there's no strict schedule dominating your round /emoticons/smile.png

I don't have a certain days that i clean apart from a few jobs that i have set days when the cleaner will be there to provide full access or I've had keys posted and the agents have to know what day the work is booked in.

As Young Mr Garwood says, you need flexibility with this job as things arise, the weather, any van issues, other responsibilities so you may need to juggle things around.

Personally i just go on holiday and have a 'drop week' and factor that into my overall pricing.

One reason i I chose this job is its stressfree, don't need to complicate it by running myself ragged trying to catch up after a holiday - I'd be knackered after trying and need another holiday! /emoticons/biggrin.png

I just say I'll be a week late as I'm going away. If I go mid week then I'll work a bit longer before I go (beer tokens for hols) and when I get back (replace the black hole in the bank from over spending!) If I leave on a sat/sun I just pick up where I left off

I do all retail work, big round and do certain things on certain days like clockwork every week. Whilst it's all regular and guaranteed money every week it's a nightmare when I want to take a holiday.

Dad can cover most times but he's nearing retirement. Some stores would be ok with it but others are pedantic (I could use other words to describe them) and I'd be out of a job by time I came back from holidays. God forbid I actually get a holiday!

Hate that rigid schedule I have but pros and cons I suppose.

As above really

I don't "catch up" I just shift the round down a week so everyone on a 4 weekly will be 5 weekly.

Get them used to you being unreliable. Sounds daft but it's not if you are strict that's when they will notice.

I say 4 weekly but any day of the week not set days and occasionally I will be up to a week late as life happens. That's what they are all told. That way if a decent job comes up I just do it.

In reality if I'm off a week I will catch up shortly after because I will work longer and harder after a week off because I need the brass lol.

Funny you mention holidays.

I'm going away next week

just go on holliday, carry on with the round due before you left. i sometimes creep back in some rounds earlier, say 3 /3 1/2 weeks instead of 4 weekly. then carry on untill your next hol, you get a master after around 4 hollidays a year. i have a lot of 2 weeklys, they not bothered if late. there saving money.

My wife told me sex was better on holiday

It really wasn't a nice postcard to receive /emoticons/biggrin.png

I just go away

My customers go on holiday & don't tell me so sometimes have to wait 2-3 weeks for the money so to me it works both ways
