That may be because Marc is in Scotland lol and he already has a licence.

a license wont weed out the cowboys at all, its not the fact people are uninsured or on the dole that makes them a bad window cleaner, in fact i know more 'professional cowboys' ones that are insured and registered ect but cut corners, miss windows etc.

there are loads of old boys out there that have been cleaning windows for 20/30 years and have a loyal customer base and do a great job, but there not insured, registered or licensed, but the customers are happy.

it would just be used to generate revenue for the government.

also, i have a criminal record from some things i did when i was younger, i dont think this should stop me from cleaning peoples windows!

I read it wrong, I thought it said every 2 weeks lol. I actualy pay more than 150 every 2 year. I need a licences for the 2 areas I work so it comes too 280 every 2 year. Although you cant get 2 year licences here. It's 1 or 3 year. I just got one years ones as I didnt know if all would work out but il be buying the 3 year ones next year. that should cost about 250

I had a criminal record, Ive got 3 charges on mine. I still got a licence, IF you have a recored for breaking and entering or mugging old people etc. Then you wont get one lol.

They use to put these leaflets out but the number of registered window cleaners dropped. you dont see them any more. I would happily chip in if they got sent out every year/6month

I dont think it would matter, even if they did reject it, if you put in an apeal. then give it to you straight away. Councils alway love avoiding court! When I first started I didnt think I was going to get one, I was planning on phoning my local paper lol

I didnt say it would work, it was an idea lol. It is a money maker but it also gives people peace of mind, if you have a licence, you have insurance! There not going to give an ex -con a licence lol

thats my point, im an ex-con, but im the most honest and trustworthy window cleaner you could meet, i agree with insurance being a requirement, just not a criminal record check, you wouldnt need a police check to be a window fitter, or a gardener or any other normal job, only if your working with vunerable people, like in a care home or a school, so why should a window cleaner be subject to such strict conditions?

Due to the amount of houses they visit, people do sometimes ask for there insides to be cleaned, people also have a bad habbit of not locking there doors (there own fault i know)

I did some work with a domestic cleaning company and they required all of their staff to have CRB checks, just a basic disclosure but in some circumstances they would require a standard or even enhanced disclosure!

it all depends on the jobs you do, i have a crb check and that allows me access to elderly warden contorolled houses and flats, plus other things like nusery's lower schools etc.

no not everyone wants one, but yet its another peice of mind and selling point that you have been police check and cleared.

Other trades just dont have people that do there job for beer money, or on the dole and do there i dont know, plumbing on the side do they, but people do in the window cleaning trade.

i wouldnt mind paying £150 every two years and have my name on the councle website, to verify I am actually window cleaning rather then on the dole and doing it to get extra cash for a bit of beer money..

I don't think a licence should go as far as a police check. After all I'd say about 9 out of 10 ex-cons end up self employed and end up being really good at it as they find they have no other way of making a living. I think that to gain a licence all they should do is make sure you are registered as self employed and are fully insured and have passed a course for proficiency. I.e. this is the safe way to use a ladder.
