In process of buying a new house...... and its got a water metre!

I know the cost is really irrelevant, but just wondering what the biggest water bill people are coming out with.

We're not selling our current house, just going to rent it out so just wondering if its going to be worth telling tenants i'll be popping back to use the outside tap to fill up the vans!

Cool, ta mate. Peanuts..... just I was talking to a guy the other day who said if he was on a metre, he wouldnt be able to afford to run anymore. He had clearly been smoking drugs!

I thought it would be a lot to pay too when I first started but running it for a year it's nothing. With my ro it take 3000lt to make 1000lt pure. And I've not noticed any big bills.

RC is that the usual conversion? ie 3000lt to make 1000lt of pure? What happens to the other 2000lt? I am thinking about going wfp (only for some jobs) and will definitely need an RO system.

H is right, the other 2000lts is waste water, i can put another membrain on it to reduce the watse and increase the pure water but not really got round to that yet.

Obviously the longer you need to keep an outside tap running the more it will cost to produce pure if on a water meter. Small R.O's take a lot more time to produce pure rather than the pro ones used like a 40 40 single or twin RO setups that are a hell of a lot quicker.

Also If not done so already should consider rainwater harvesting too as is cheap and easy to setup which can save using a R.O so much.

with in your water reats are sewarage charges basted on your water usegd and wot u use for ro can be disconted for the portion of sewarage .so if u use 6,000L of water and 3,000L for ro you dont pay for harf of thet 6 in swerag i think u can put meater on tar for ro

Thank you Daley and RC, alittle more knowledge for me all helps, must say i'm still not totally convinced re wfp, it's certainly not environmently friendly, i'm fed up of hearing that one.!

It wastes far too much water, i will have to be very selective when i use it...

WFP cleaning is not necessarily eco friendly. There are different ways to purify the water, some of which are more economic than others, but generally you can say it is eco friendly.

I think the reason people go down this route is because they say there are no chemicals used in the process. This doesn’t mean its eco friendly.

However, there is a point at which WFP cleaning is a necessity. If you are doing work for commercial clients, they will not allow ladders on site, so at that point, the question of how the water is purified becomes a question of choice on the WFP company. The client will not care. All they know is they need the purified water going up a pole rather than having a man up a ladder. Their insurers will not allow it any other way. They see it as Man on ground cleaning with low risk of injury Vs man up ladder with increased risk of injury.

Both forms of cleaning are valid, but its about matching the right method with the right situation.

if you are worrried about saving water as said before rain water harvesting or di vessel will do this

My waste I put in a water butt & use it when I'm doing trad. As I only make about 200 litres a month I don't have a lot of waste. 1 question could you not connect the waste pipe to a small di to change that to pure???

it takes 50 years for for wash up lqid to decompoz
Please don't tell me you don't use washing up liquid either lol. I prob use less washing up liquid in a day then my missis does washing up. Wfp certainly does waste water.
