i clean shops on a busy road in my town... i got 4 in a row... i knew a few of them already had a window cleaner....

so i went their today and the lad was cleaning inside via trad ! i had a good chat with him and i clean all the signage on the shops etc.....

hes been going for 30 years he said we were doing the same shop and he done most of the shops i clean... but 2 shops that he cleans.... i dont clean their windows.... the owner put their shutters down and all i do is clean their signage and shutters ( instead of the windows )

and thats job done

while he normally does the glass only /emoticons/tongue.png lol

the shop owners prefer him on the glass then me but they love me at the same time cos i can clean their signage and like the fascias and everything... and they all love getting their shutters cleaned /emoticons/tongue.png lol

the lad was in a vauxhall astra with ladders on top of his car and he said hes got 300 customers... i said i only got 150 he goes thats very good cos your always building up etc /emoticons/smile.png

1 of my customers asked me to come clean her new cafe.. Done 2 cleans.. Turned up for the third and there was a wooden pointer ladder falling apart and a black bucket sitting outside!! Well I went in to do insides when she said hold on.. She said the window cleaner that's been round here for 20 years is going to do them fortnightly.. But she wants windows done weekly, so said I could do the other 2 weeks!! Lol, I told her I wouldn't be back.. Debating wether to go back to clean her home windows..

Most jobs i do customers already have a regular window cleaner. Work that one out /emoticons/biggrin.png

Nope... but some do after I have cleared & cleaned their gutters, fascias, soffits, cladding, conservatory roof, patio, driveway etc then include a free window clean (already calculated in the price). May I add I don't push the window cleaning side if they are already happy with their regular window cleaner. That is if I want to take the work on as i'm semi-retired.

So I don't just clean windows as would rather spend a few hours working on one property than doing lots of £10 or so cleans in a day. I've also found by speaking to customers they prefer to deal with one person to be able to do most external cleaning jobs on their home.

After saying that regular monthly domestic window cleaning does give a residual monthly income whereas the other services I offer are less frequent so never know how much work during each month will come from it.

Guess If you have a very large window cleaning round then probably would have no time for other services that customers need doing so is a catch-22 situation for most to decide which way they want to go.

Smurf - I think in thinking along the same lines as you, I'd rather spend a few hours on one property than 20 minutes on lots of others.

That's the reason my name and slogan is what it is. But to start ill mainly be on windows to get going. If once I'm full time I can get 2/3 days a week on widows and the other days with the extras, I be happy.

Once I get established, ill be pushing the extras more than the glass.

There is good money to be had for sure by offering a wide range of services. Personally it would do my head in just cleaning windows every day.

Yer, I must admit I enjoyed doing my dads facia n guttering over the weekend

so they employ you to do their shutters and signs but they wont trust you on the glass? haha, classic!
they do trust me .... just they prefer the squeeqe plus this cleaner has been doing it for years .... so they cant really say go away to him ... but they love their shutters and sign being cleaned lol

lol, just seems crazy they wouldnt have asked the other guy to do the sign and shutters, its not like you need pure water for that, just an extendable brush? why have 2 cleaners when either could do both?

It'll just take the other guy to figure that out and I'd bet he does before H picks up a squeegee.

using an extendable brush to clean signs would still be within a traddies job description if you ask me, same as a conny roof would be

Indeed...but obviously they chose H for the job instead /emoticons/biggrin.png

You will find you will still pickup profitable work that wfp and/or trad guys will not or cannot be botherd to do.

thats the same as what i do i have a few regular windows just to keep me ticking over but earn most of my money threw gutter cleans and jetwashing etc but quite often il pick up the windows of a gutter clean ive just done as like you i offer a free window clean and sometimes they just ask me to do thers regualry ( i dont push the windows or underquote aswell) in one case the women asked me and i was £5.50 dearer than her regular cleaner but i still got the job yes he was that bad lol

Glad to here it jimbob /emoticons/wink.png I only take on profitable window cleaning jobs now and leave the rest to the chepo cleaners /emoticons/wink.png
