Would You Wear This A Could Save Your Life

For ppl that use a ladder to clear guttering and downspouts out by hand I use this aswell as mentioned in another post today https://www.windowcleaningforums.co.uk/topic/5195-clearing-downspouts-guttering-by-hand/

Brilliant bit of kit /emoticons/wink.png

What do you think?
I like the micro lite smurf, but it must take you ages to do gutters having to strap the ladders to the ground? Could you not have just put the ladders against that little wall? What would you do on paved/concrete ground?

My pops has been up and down ladders for 25 years and never fell off them.. He did trip on a kerb in someone's garden while carrying ladders and whatever way he landed his baby finger broke and bent right round the wrong way ( if that makes sense )

Thing is when do you know when an accident will happen? You don't.. If your not silly or dont take silly risks just to save time then you will be fine up ladders.

I bought a brand new motorbike wen I was 17, day I drove it home my mum said that's too big for you, my reply was I'm fine mummy it's not like I'm going to crash.. 6 weeks later I was lying in hosptial on a life support machine...

That chap had probably been up and down ladders as much as your pop as he was a grandfather too. He died and was only 51 years old so what a waste of a life dont you think.

I'm Just saying there is gear available to help protect your head and it's upto you the individule if you wear it or not as could help save your life one day that's all folks.

I'm with you on this one smurf, Sadly some people won't be swayed from the ''it wont happen to me'' attitude, not having a dig at anybody but its just how it is. No matter how many stats, figures and stories, you'll always get the same response, ''If i'm working safe it wont happen to me'' well sadly it happens to those who are working safe as well. Just alot less likely to seriously injure yourself with some ppe,

Doesn't take long to set the ladder up at all.....the stabiliser legs just fold out from the ladder so is very easy to use. Most of the time only need the ladder set in one or maybe two postitions on one lengh of gutter run as can use a pole with a gutter clearing attachment.

Another way to use that ladder setup is with the microlite against the wall high enough to safely clear this blocked downspout by hand.

Don't worry that the ladder looks slightly askew in the pic as after the pic was taken I levelled the bottom of the ladder properly before starting work /emoticons/biggrin.png

Nice one,..I think more ppl would agree than disagree about wearing safety head gear is a good thing to be honest...

The Ankalad Ladder Stabiliser

An Ankalad Stabiliser secures a ladder in much the same way as stabilisers secure a child's first bike.

Correctly positioned it's impossible for the ladder to slide down the wall or side over sideways due to over-reaching - which is the real killer and cause of 9 out of 10 accidents.

Ankalad weighs just 3.6kg (8lbs) and is built to a high quality using the finest materials, namely annodised aluminium, zinc plated steel, brass, stainless steel and nylon mouldings.

If you use ladders, or if you employ people to use your ladders, can you afford NOT to use Ankalad?

  • Fits any wooden or aluminium ladder of 1, 2 or 3 sections
  • Very high quality
  • Extremely strong, yet very light
  • Provides a safe reach of up to 26ft against a solid structure and up to 14ft free standing
  • Folds away flat when not in use
  • Adjustable telescopic legs with easy find locking buttons to cater for un-even ground
  • Totally eliminates ladder 'bounce'
  • Makes extending your ladder much easier
  • Will TOTALLY stop your ladder from sliding down a wall or toppling sideways

Basemate have been about for a few years now but not used one myself as no longer do trad window cleaning using ladders...

See ebay have them listed but different type that bolt onto the ladder instead.

Dodger Is it a rated safety product in the UK?

Also what stops it slipping backward on slippery hard surfaces etc?

In direct sports today in the rugby section they had those padded hats, nearly brought one. Remember back to when people didn't have to wear crash helmet on a motor bike and remember when they made if compulsory to wear hard hat on site. Now you wouldn't think twice now.

I've asked a mate to see what make a well known company uses and if he can get hold of one for me that is if/when one should happen to fall of a back of a lorry. /emoticons/biggrin.png

If one should fall off the back of a lorry, it obviously wasn't strapped on properly. The company would obviously not be health & safety conscious. What damage could that do to an innocent pedestrian? If they can't strap the product on the lorry safely, I would not trust the product to be safe!

I suppose the pedestrian would be safer if they happened to be wearing one of the safety helmets eh?! Is that another reason to buy them? I don't know, I'm sooooo confused!

Excellent /emoticons/biggrin.png getting hit by one of them would make anyone confused I would guess...

Going back to the start of this thread, I think this is an extremely good idea and people should really think about it. B)
