I have been asked to clean a house with square lead on the windows, I have a few houses with small leaded hoppers that I scrim, but this is on all the glass except the large glass on the lounge window the squares are too small to get a 6 inch blade in, how would you go about this job or would you give it a miss?

try to use cloths sepertly for this job and try not to scratch the lead as it will over time lead to led poisoning,

Yup, I go out looking for leaded windows to knock since they are a pain to do when you do traditional, but with WFP its the same as normal windows.

I did one today, well the two lads that work for me did it. Its all lead all the way round. When I quoted it, I charged twice my regular rate and it worked out not to bad. We have now did the customer for a few years and although it takes longer, its not that bad if you price it properly. But if you do get it wrong you will hate doing it.

My advice would be to just be honest with the customer, tell them its not your typical job, and you cant give an exact quote. But would estimate it at X amount. Once complete, give them a quote based on how long it took. For your estimate, I would charge double(your normal rate, without lead), plus a 1 or 2 pound.

Doo......I have quite a few properties that are all leaded windows. Its not so bad once you have developed a method. Before I start I give my applicator a really good squeeze (if you pardon the expression) so that its not dripping. Squeeze as much water out as you can. I will then wash the window with the applicator. I then have two large premium fine weave micro fibre cloths. I use one to mop up all of the water and then the other just to buff up the window. It comes up a treat and it doesnt take as much time as you might think. The secret is to ensure that applicator is well squeezed and also that large (80cm x 62cm) fine weave micros are used. Its no good farting about with the smaller cloths. For most properties I wouldnt dip the applicator in the bucket again. In the winter you can sometimes afford to wash down two windows at the same time. The second window will remain wet (but dry slightly) whilst you sort the first window.

Sorry, its a bit of a ramble, but I find this works for me.

yeah im 100% trad at the min and ive got a few props that are entirley leaded and dont really take me to much more time than a regular prop, but you should charge a bit more for it,
