Roof Bars

WCF

Help Support WCF:

i got some for 30 aswell from argos and use them once to transport some ladders i had given me. dunno why i bothered getting them to be honest as i never use ladders but coz they were free i grabbed them.

I've always had cheap ones £30-£50 but now I've got a van and spent £160 on them and I love them, feel so much safer having ladders on. I wouldn't go back to cheap ones again... I had some once where the wind blew off the ladder inc the roof bars, wasn't good going down the duel carriage way.

A quick word... when ordering make sure the make and model of your vehicle hasn't changed that year.. Or you end up using a ladder to get your ladders off... /emoticons/biggrin.png

same as Toby have lost ladders off vehicles so just buy the trade racks 8x4 with rollers can carry all sorts safely £200 roughly usually galvanised so dont rust and don't bend with ladder clamps fitted carry as many ladders as required but its a big outlay

Bungees are not a good idea in my experience. Many a time have I had to drive with my arm out the window holding onto the ladders on a windy day haha

As with lots of stuff I made my own roof bars. Aluminium speaker stands, they're strong and light, brackets and tie I made as well. Hurricane Henrietta would take the wheels before the ladders.

Just my opionion but with all the ladder talk we have with saftey I can't believe people use bungees & other things to hold there ladders on. Bungees stretch & snap so surely the outlay for ladder clamps is worth it. I personally wouldn't use anything else.

You can make your own for the price of a decent bungee anyway posh, threaded bar, a wingnut and a piece of 1" square steel tube.

Threaded bar through the 1" steel the width of the ladders. How would you make the half moon at the bottom of the threaded bar to hook round the roof bar or am I completely wrong lol

I only really use bungees. Never had one snap, come off, bend etc... I find the clamps take too long in between jobs and I can't reach so I have to climb on the roof or use steps to put the clamps on.. Bungees are fine if used properly.
