Filling up my tank with van locked?

Every time I fill up my tank I get my Merlin out and place it on top of my tank get the hose out and connect it up to my RO , I can't shut the doors as the hoses are in the way (waste hose and garden hose) so I leave the back doors open a bit if you get what I mean, I have to keep going out to check if it near the top or not and when it's filled up I take the RO out. How much would it cost to have it so I can have the connectors under the van just to fill up and have a ball valve so it cuts off when the water reaches the top and so I can lock the van up?

Is this a good way to do it? I don't want to put loads of holes in my van as it's new but maybe I have to?!

Cheers in advance

My van (also new) had four holes drilled through for the pipes to come in and out by pure freedom, they also installed a solenoid and float valve so as soon as my tank is full it stops, i went for that so i can just park up at home and plug it in and forget it

That's what I need mate are the holes massive ? If I sell the van years to come would I get away with it or is it really noticeable?

How much they charge to do all that mate?

The holes are roughly the same size as hosepipe, i guess if you took the system out you could plate over them and seal them.

Well saying that I have 4 massive bolts drilled in for my tank straps lol will just have to buy a new floor if I sell it

One other thing did they drill holes in your bumper because I don't really want that happening lol

Two small holes under the bumper, no one would see them if you take the ports off.

On a funny note i was driving to a job the other day and a silver transit passed me with his three pipes trailing on the floor. Surely that would wear his connectors out.

It world have been even funnier if he was dragging his hose reel an wfp down the road too /emoticons/biggrin.png

The holes should be absolutely fine Neil. When you come to sell the van and take out the system, all you need do is touch up any spots with protecta and plug the holes, then have a sheet of plywood fitted on top. Itll be cheap and look the dogs danglies !

I wouldn't worry about any holes, they can be sorted in the future & to be honest I reckon wouldn't have much if any bearing on the vehicles resale value. What is more important is that your van suites your own needs as much as possible- after all, that is why you bought it to begin with. The van is of more value to serve you as best required for the duration of ownership than any small factors regarding its future resale value./emoticons/wink.png

Your both right there, i have a brand new van and I know it's for my business but it's heartbreaking seeing all these holes being drilled into it lol! I'm going to cleaning spot tomorrow to see how much they charge hopefully they give me a good price with all the bits

The Merlin is designed to shut down (stop processing water) once the pure is closed off. So a extra hose in and out is all you need. When you come to sell the van just use a blank grommet in the hole. They are easily purchased from Motor factors such as Halfords.

Example;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CABLE-WIRING-BLANKING-OPEN-PIPE-RUBBER-RING-HOLE-BLANK-STOPS-ELECTRICAL-CLOSED-/290813253770?pt=UK_DIY_Material_Electrical_Fittings_MJ&var=&hash=item43b5d2188a

When you drill the holes (use a steel hole saw a little bigger than the diameter of the hose) then paint the bare metal with a protective paint.

I always recommend that the plylining is removed from the floor and the floor painted with Protectakote. Store the ply floor in your garage and refit it when you sell the van.

Neil i would not worry about the holes, pure freedom bolted my tank through my floor as well as the hose holes, it will be fine if you get it done properly, after all the van is just a workhorse to earn you some money

I haven't got ply on the floor in the back I've got factory fitted flooring which is already water proofed

Got a quote from cleaning spot and they said we don't like doing that sort of thing so we will charge £400 !!! Hold on a minute I've seen you fit systems and you don't like drilling couple of holes and poking some hose through ! So I told them to shove it and went to omnipole , van booked in next week and is costing £90 + vat that's having the plate put on for the connectors and a ball valve in the tank so it don't overflow
