What do you think of my new pump box?

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Looks smart,But

I think the controller should be easier to get to. Either on the outside of the box or the top part of the door cut of.

But I am basing my opinion on how I work, if it works for you, great job

Also the box is so big there will be no room left for water containers in the boot of the car.

Is your pumps pressure switch linked into the wiring circuit?

I guess have to experiment. The box will go on the back seat of car with battery and reel. My barrels are in the boot (for safety reasons ). I made the box cos I am not careful and smash things into and water might get splashed onto it.

The hose coming in and out will get tugged as well hence I fixed it to the side.

The loop does seem to mean it takes longer for the pump to pump water when I switch it on

Not sure what u mean exactly but the controller is wired up yes.

On the first photos I looked at I couldn't see if there were wires going down to the pressure switch. As your controller doesn't have an inbuilt electronic pressure switch you need the pumps pressure switch to do that job.

However, on another photo I didn't see earlier before I asked, I then saw that the pressure switch is connected, so, no, there is no problem.

A Shurflo pump will suck water to a head of 12' above the water level. My son's van's pump is situated above his tank. Lots of ATV sprayers have their pumps mounted on top of their tanks, so no problem there.

Nice box slippy, two things from me - are you going to paint it up? I've made a few things in the past with marine ply and unless the edges are sealed/painted it tends to delaminate. Ginger is a good colour!

Also - consider ring terminals for your battery connections, crock clips may vibrate off and give you intermittent power - if you have some more quick connectors use them in-line so you can disconnect it easily, but make sure you put some tape or heat shrink over the connections (including the ones in your box). You don't want them shorting out as your driving along!

I can see a major problem straight away and your controller will be fried. Anyone else spot it!!!
Those cable joins are bare. It will short out sooner rather than later.

But nothing will happen as Slippy isn't a real person anymore than Frank Spencer was a real person either.

Ooh betty the cats done a whoopsie on the carpet

Going to gaffer tape the bare wire connections.

Thxs for reminding me though.

Do you think exterior ply (some parts) and interior ply (think the sides are interior ply) will rot even if painted with exterior varnish? I have painted the lot with exterior varnish. Dabbed lots into the ends. Would you only use marine ply for this kind of project? What you mean by sealing it?

Good point on the crock clips- they are quite strong though. I will test it out and if you're right will change it to the way you said. Wish I had thought of that earlier. Wouldn't the ring terminals get in the way of the charging clips though when it's being charged?

Exterior varnish will do the trick, if you leave any ply open to the elements it starts to delaminate - even exterior ply, it always says it needs a protective coating whether it be varnish, felt or paint.

Ring terminals are low profile so shouldn't affect charging if your charger has croc clips. I use ctek chargers and you can buy charging leads that have a fly lead that screws/bolts to the battery, you then plug the charger into the plug to charge it. Keeps everything neat and you don't have to faff about with crock clips and worry that the connection isn't 100%.

To be honest I was wondering why you even replied when you said he wasn't real
