Exterior varnish will do the trick, if you leave any ply open to the elements it starts to delaminate - even exterior ply, it always says it needs a protective coating whether it be varnish, felt or paint.Ring terminals are low profile so shouldn't affect charging if your charger has croc clips. I use ctek chargers and you can buy charging leads that have a fly lead that screws/bolts to the battery, you then plug the charger into the plug to charge it. Keeps everything neat and you don't have to faff about with crock clips and worry that the connection isn't 100%.
