non return valve

Hi,

Looking for some advice please. I heard about putting a non return valve by my shurflo pump. Can anybody give me more details as to where exactly it should go and which way it needs to be, if that makes sense?? The problem i have is that when my tank gets to about half full and then i drive to next job the water pressure is low and i have to disconnect from hose reel and run pump at max for a while to get it working again.

In my experience the pump should only let water through when it is on? If I disconnect the hose from the outlet of my pump water doesn't pour out, maybe that's just me? Where is the tank outlet positioned in relation to the pump and which way is the pump mounted? I've heard some brodex systems suffer with pump failure and pressure issues because they mount the pumps upside down.
