I dont know if they would take offence, you meet all kinds of funny buggers in this job so i wouldnt be surprised

probably best to try some different ways of wording the letters to see what gets the best conversion rate

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write to you as the proprietor of Fife Window Cleaning Services, and offer a local window cleaning service in your area (usually once a month but this varies dependant on customer needs). Currently my business caters for some houses local to your residence, and also in other areas throughout Fife. As a registered sole trader, I have business insurance and a Fife Council licence in place (can supply proof of both).

As standard I clean all window frames and doors after all windows have been cleaned, and use traditional means for the window cleaning (ladders and a squeegee). Please see the attached flier, which provides some more information about my company; with an added link to my facebook business page, where you will see various statuses and all review details (all are currently 5 star).

If you would like a quote for window cleaning, gutter cleaning, solar panel cleaning or facia cleans do not hesitate to contact me on 07856 539498 or at chris@fifewindowcleaningservices.co.uk

Well canvassing revisited eh.

Chapped a few in my home town last night, got three new houses in an ever growing new estate.

I'm the only cleaner at the business end of this estate so been keeping an eye on new cars outside houses etc. Just reminded myself I meant to see the site foreman, gona ask him to put my fliers in all the new house kitchen drawers. Cleaners shouldn't notice them there!

So that's 3 further out houses getting dropped due to these new ones,330 is my magic number for houses and I can't let it get mentally out of control again.

Posted 20 fliers and letters (see above post) to houses here today, will update if get anything out of it.

Chapped a few here lately, feel good for it! Maybe 7/8 new ones in this town in the last week-two are fortnightly so on my round we'll count them as 2 each (so almost 10 new here or something)

Price wise I'm about 8/10 for my new builds now-and get around a 3/4 bed semi in 15 mins continuously (was timing this yesterday with a crap casio eBay watch that has already lost pixels grrr!)

Nothing is under 7 pound now ever! Not much I know but I can get around a house pretty fast now. All competition is 5 at max here, where I'd take 10 roughly.

Website wise I'm gona ask @Gav (nicely :-) ) if I can revamp the site in the new year with a price list type site similar to one @spruce mentioned a few months back (the guy who started up after his windy kept missing the bathroom window I think). Any links to that site appreciated mate.

The reason for this is I'm gona look to get further up the rankings via yell or Google ad words (any advice appreciated), mainly focusing on gutter cleaning/facia/connys-I want to be doing 40 plus gutters next year, and 20 plus conny cleans etc. Site sits top result for my home town under window cleaning services and so thank you Gav

Finally I was thinking about our recently sold list,I can't be the only one who's had work come in from ppl wanting their house to look great for photos (selling the house time).

Anyway in the new year I'm thinking of writing out to houses for sale this time, offering a set structure service with a price guide IE full facias, glass, gutters and stuff-explaining how it would help them sell the house etc.

As @Green Pro Clean Ltd has said, they don't know what they need until we tell them!

If you want to get into adwords chris you need to do it properly as theres a lot to it.

I bought this course a month ago and am currently working through it

Ultimate Google AdWords Course 2016–Stop SEO & Win With PPC!

wont help your site rank though, well possibly its not 100% clear, yell might help to an extent with a high PR backlink, but depedning on your competition for keywords it`ll likely be link building/blogging and social media that gets it up there.

Adwords is a good shortcut though

As a slight twist on the sold idea. I thought about also targetting for sale houses, obtained in the same way online (only new builds so no one is already occupying)

With a sort of welcome to your new home letter, heres my list of services, a leaflet and a card if you i ever need anything im your man type letter

@adamangler good plan but I'm worried fliers/generalised letters get binned by mortgage sales ppl etc.

It was a builder who told me he stuck his mates landscaping business fliers in new build kitchen drawers.

Thanks for the add word link I'll have a good look at that this weekend mate

Plenty of new estates popping up near me, I have targeted a couple. I clean the sales office on both estates and one show home for free and they put my flyer in the hand over pack when the new owner gets the keys. Worked great at first until a large company bombarded all the houses week after week with flyers advertising a ridiculously low price. When all people want is ther windows cleaned they seem to go for the cheapest they can get - only find this on new estates though which is why I have been priced out of both now.

That's the only problem with new build estates once a cheap windy has the monopoly it's game over. and in 20 years time they'll still be doing them at the same price.

A reason I like my work spread out, it's almost impossible to lose any great quantity at once because no one talks

@Chris33

How far back would you go with the letters ?. I've got to June so far.

Reckon it's worth going back to the start of the year ?

Not posted any of this batch yet, got about 600 written up so far

I was thinking more along the lines of when home owners put their house up. @adamangler

I'm gona go see a few local estate agents here today, see if they will take some fliers to give to those selling, to put in their packs..with the idea being to sell full house cleans prior to photos being taken etc

@peter rogers that's why I'm starting with more recent I guess but will chap some too.

@HALTON that's true enough, but from that info we can speak to the site foreman or sales staff from said company ie Barratt homes to work out when ppl move in-time to chap them if close enough

Think. Problem is with putting new builds in google is you don't Know if they are occupied or not unless i missing something

If it's a new build as in just built and its for sale how can it be occupied?

What i was meaning is if you send a letter to a new build you dont know if its occupied /people moved in or not.

If they have not moved in and you send/post a letter through the letter box the sales person will bin them so in theory they will not reach the potential Client its intended for

If it's for sale then they cant have moved in. if it's sold then they might or might not have moved in.

But yes they could be thrown away. better just sticking to sold property's really.

@adamangler keep me posted with your letters. Sounds like your hitting that sold list hard and will make a fair bit of progress for 2017 (did I just say that!) off it :-)

Just a heads up for anyone who uses a lot of ink, ive just realised you can get these refill kits off ebay

CANON PG545 PG 545 PIXMA MG2450 MG2550 XL BLACK INK CARTRIDGE REFILL KIT | eBay

hopefully they work as ink aint cheap from the shop, just used a brand new £12 cartridge on 350 sheets just now

invest in a laser printer... toner lasts forever, and much more reliable than inkjet.

@adamangler have you looked at royal mail services for mass posting?

Don't know if it would be cheaper but perhaps they have something. Seeing as your taking on the mantle as chief letter posting dude.
