WFP vs TRAD

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I'm so slow now if I was doing trad by ladders instead of wfp I wouldn't make any real money @norm
thats only because of your big white beard snags but which contains inside it knowledge and mysterys of cleaning

I do wfp top trad bottom. I fell off ladders n gave myself a daft one but not broken anything. Ive got alot of houses with dormer windows over garages, the guy i bought round off used a bolted standoff to clear the gutter, which seems a good idea. But the bolts broke on him once when doing a velux window, just aswell he had ladder feet against a shed at same time.( i got another standoff to try that has spring attachment this would not take my weight if i used it at the angles reqrd to do dormers, im 14 stnish as the name implies its a stand off not a stand on)

So i like my wfp, but would have liked to hav had the confidence to use the ladders, a lot less hassle with kartin barrels of water about.

I think u get more satisfaction from tradding, a nice sparkly window in an instant. So best of both worlds are for me. I hav three young lads n my wife needs my legs to run after them.

I look up youtube ladder accidents:eek: now n then n just wince at what has happened to poor folk just to remind me that wfp is safer unless you hit a power cable then your toast. pluses n minuses:)

.if you're a born again traddy like me one thing not mentioned is ....the pure fun and challenge of doing something new...

.if others on here can do it ...i see no reason why i can't...and boy it can, for sure be faster... not that i have actually done anything with pure yet as that particular plumbing nightmare lies still in the box....but i couldn't keep my hands of my pole...ohh mrs....and so yesterday just cleaned my gable end fascias and my totally green alarm box without any chemicals at all and the results were great.

if i was to ladder it...well with my storage area right where my ladder wants to go....not a safe angle for the ladder...although it would be well footed....it would take forever to keep moving the big heavy ladder to do the job...

i am sure i will be a hybrid window cleaner for years to come... not so sure about the cheapish pole mind you....it was ....er.... a bit too bendy for my liking...still it will keep me happy for a while...slx here i come..../emoticons/biggrin.png

its coming with me on its first official outing on monday to clean gutters....i am learning....two mistakes so far....

one trying to collapse the pole with it resting on the floor and thus not letting the pipe out....oops....

two forgetting to undo the clamps and just expecting it move....and of course pulling the section out completely..oops

but with time i am sure i will get there....as for the bendy bit...i had opened the pole to full and still had a couple of sections left so i will try opening each section just half way and hopefully that will strengthen it .. must stop talking about it now as i want to go and play.../emoticons/biggrin.png

I was working at a posh house for the last 3 days and had to be on my best behaviour (not do anything stupid). The place had cameras everywhere and a control room like nasa. /emoticons/biggrin.png

No slashing in the pond then @Smurf?

I tried very hard not to bother about the cameras but I'm sure they had a good giggle when I fell down some steps /emoticons/biggrin.png

The only water I wanted to go in was their swimming pool but preferably not through the glass roof beneath me that I had to clean:rolleyes:

each method has its place . i wouldnt dream of doing big commercial with ladders same as wfp has no natural place on the council estates

theres hostility to the method on the big estates , certainly in Suffolk and Essex ,course i cant speak for the whole country . youd be a fool to try and thats not offending anybody who is wfp.

from whom the trad guys or so say customers?

from the customers . whether they once [yrs ago] had a wfp turn up who didnt do it right ,or perhaps they heard it off a mate that its **** ,i know not . theyre adamant its rubbish

all i do know is that it not be worth my effort to try to "turn them"

That's always a difficult call with "you left my windows wet" brigade but if you are happy to trad them instead it's your business after all.

The common WFP complaint I hear from custys is "he was only hear 5 minutes". Now from a WCers perspective we would call that efficient. But in many peoples eyes, the service is more then just the end result. Its a bit like the way people opt to go to a restaurant, instead of using the takeaway service at the same place- they like the feel of it. A lot of people like to have someone taking care of there house and being up close sorting out the fine details. Many people also like other people to see that they have a WCer, gardener, etc. just to keep up with the Jones... so if you are only there 5mins, you're unlikely to get spotted.

Just a few observations I've made, but most of the people I get that come back from WFP to trad, say its because of the bad finish. But as I've said before, its not the method, its the person.
