http://www.ultimatewasher.com/electric-powered-hose-reel.htm i think i might go fo the non- remote controlled /emoticons/biggrin.png

no i dont but would like to find a hose reel that could be bolted on my back door of my van with a weather proof motor to reel it in, bcos im fed up of lugging it in and out of the van at every job.

This could save a lot of time during the day if you have many different sites/jobs to visit, so would like to think you would make the money back through the time saved over the course of the year.

I took a sneaky pic of this van whilst waiting at a junction :D

Do people think that saving a minute and half a minute there, using an electric reel to wind-in their hoses is going to make a massive difference to their working day.......it's not THAT time consuming to reel it in by hand.

A heavy type hose I could understand, but come-on........mini/micro bore hose....paaah....man-up /emoticons/biggrin.png.

If you have to reel out the hose fully during the course of the day, it would be very helpful as you could pack up other stuff while the hose is being reeled in by its self.

How often do people use 100mtr of hose on a job, besides.....there's not a lot of equipment to pack up, you'd have already brought the pole back to the van...so that leaves a couple of cones to pick up.

On commercial large buildings with just straight runs then maybe a good idea. However I dread to think on domestic especially going around corners how many things you could snag and possibly break allowing the real to rewind the hose on it's own without it being attended.

Well i think it would make life easier as i had to wind up about 70 meters of hose as i had to park a way away from he job, wfp is about safety first, then added bonus of speeding up each job, as i find its much quicker doing upstairs and down stairs with wfp but i find im spending almost same time getting my hose out /in of the van, pluging it in, the van, winding the hose and seting up than i am on the job! and that winds me up ! /emoticons/biggrin.png

anyone know what kind of fittings and bolts i would need to fix my hose reel to the back of my van? and what do i do about the water feed?

i think what im going to do on monday is time how long i spend setting up and packing up and let you know.

I use 100m everyday, i park strategically on every bit of work then unwind the reel to first bit of work to avoid extra wear and tear on fittings etc and to prevent dragging the hose round sharp corners etc and work back, i could benefit from the remote version deffo to take up the slack as i work back or feed me more as needed. How much for import tax? Thats a hell of a lot cheaper than the english version i saw the other month at that trade show mark m organised in cornwall

Make a shelf at the back of the van for the hose-reel to be at your waist height, the reel can be fixed/clipped in place by using plastic pipe clips.

You can leave the hose pressured-up...no more lifting the reel in and out of the van...but best of all is having he reel at waist height when reeling-in, doing that just makes it so much easier and quicker.

I also unwind/pull hose to the furthest window away from the van and work my way back.

No need for 'import tax' buy British /emoticons/wink.png......

the fella who made the system you seen at the show also makes this motorised reel.....

still expensive for what it is in my opinion.....but each to their own........here you go anyway.....

Depending on which reel you have, the reel frame should clip into these.....

And a 'swivel elbow' for the reel.....

I too pull out to the furthest window, and I do use 100 metres quite often on some of the Mansions I do. I find reeling in the full length can be a pain so I go and pull the end back to the reel then go out and halve it again then pull that back to the reel. It reels in easily then.

I like the idea of an automatic reel but don't like the fact that you have no control. You wont feel it snag if it wraps itself around a plant pot or something. So there is a chance of doing some real damage to something that the customer values.

How many times does the hose get stuck when reeling it in and you have to stop to sort it , you couldn't possibly press a button and expect it done and reeled in cause in the real world it won't work cause we have tried it

This is true, but if you are able to operate the electric reel by remote, then you can 'supervise' the rewind at the loop or twist that can do the damage. I've lost count of the times I have had to leave the hose reel and go back to the end of the hose and unhook it from an obstacle it has found.

The problem is that electric hose reels that have a self layering provision are very expensive. I've seen them advertised in the States but not here in the UK.

I need to fit a hose reel permanently into the van now. This lifting the hose reel in and out is killing my back. It could be that having a hose reel mounted at the higher level would help as has also been suggested on here. But I don't want to leave the van doors open and will have to design a system of hose pulley guides to get the hose through the floor and out the back. The main obstacle at the back of my van is the towbar. So I need some roller guides similar to what Water Works OKGO uses on their system.

Stephen Fox from WCW has advised that the manufacturer is in the final testing phase of an electric upgrade to the ProLoc heavy duty reel they sell, so that should be good.
