Any of you use a gopro for wfp window cleaning?

I was thinking it might come in handy to see what I'm doing especially on 1st floor and above glass, frames & sills

What do you think?

Well have you tried cleaning a sill on a window properly from the outside over a conservatory roof etc @Tuffers as you can't see what you are doing from the ground. Same goes for conservatory roof frames on the blind side when you have access issues by ladder. So it's not as daft as it seems or is it? /emoticons/biggrin.png

Like I'm going to strap a camera next to the brush to check whether I left a cobweb? :rof:. You're going to use it to peep aren't you :tmi:

I wouldn't put on my website that "we offer a friendly service and sometimes put a small camera on a stick and point it through your windows to have a look at whats going on".

:rof:

I tend to do that anyway whilst doing a gutter survey so won't make much difference surely? /emoticons/biggrin.png

Anyhow I've been awoken many times by our old trad window cleaner cleaning our bedroom window. At least you get a warning though as the ladders clank about before you see him so can stop what you are doing to the wife

Tell us more @Smurf, on seconds thoughts

Just thought it would make my job easier trying to clean stuff I can't see properly. When I say clean stuff I mostly mean plastic restoration work where access is impossible by ladders to be able to do it by hand.

The problem I see is that you need an extra pair of arms. I haven't a camera and its on the list although not a priority. The advantage of the GoPro cameras is that they can stream video directly to a smart phone or tablet. Whilst you are guiding a camera on a pole, someone else will have to watch the screen and report problem areas. The other way is to record and play it back.

Very time consuming. I can't see it being economically viable. A windie I heard about had a very power pair of binoculars for checking his work at height, but he couldn't see the cill obviously.

I think it would be ideal for first clean to check afterwards, a lot of first clean tend to be really dirty and gopro could help checking sills or conseratory roof are done properly.

Since using a gopro for gutter surveys I have won every job so far to date I have quoted on and it has more than paid for itself on my very first job. I use it also in real time when using a guttervac as saves me loads of time. Now I looking at other aspects of my work as mentioned above as I can see it being a big time saver too on really awkward jobs.

What I do spruce is mount the phone to the bottom of the pole and the gopro at the top, and use the app. I can show you a pic if you want?

Just imagine trying to do this conservatory roof as the only access is from either the front or the side I took the pic from. There are no 1st floor windows above it either so no one could spot for me on the blind sides of the frames or crest. Ok I could ask the customer if they could stand inside I suppose and look up but is not ideal as I would prefer to see what I was doing myself.

The best way to do the back of that one including the crest due to it being a 6m reach from the side would be to do most of it from the front using a conservatory ladder and reaching overhand to get to the back frames and the crest so a gopro camera connected to my phone to view what I was going would be ideal on that one don't you think?

I already have cleared the guttering with the aid of the gopro. Afterwards cleaned the outside of the guttering and fascias. Then gave the conservatory a quick wash over as you do but said a proper conservatory roof deep clean including the crest would be an extra £150 when they want it doing which is booked in for next year.

Thanks Keir

I would like to see a picture of that.

From what I understood from Smurf is that he wanted it to check the state of the window clean afterwards. I don't know how successful having a phone attached to your cleaning pole would work due to water, but using it for gutter inspections and gutter clearing with a vacuum cleaner is a brilliant way to go.

We haven't enough gutter cleaning work though and are bursting at the seams with window cleaning, so adding further expense for the occassional gutter clean isn't justifiable for us.

One of the main bug bares for me is not being able to see what I'm doing be it trying to check & clearing gutters, cleaning awkward bits on conservatory roofs, window sills etc. At least using a camera makes my job so much easier to do the best job I can be it on an awkward one-off or first cleans.

Well that sill to do with a bit of a clean aswell...**** it as was not quoted for /emoticons/biggrin.png
