How much for this gutter job.

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I stay clear of 3 storey work now as I'm not going to be using ladders at that height if I can't clear it properly with a guttervac.

I tried clearing this 2 storey corner first with a guttervac today just to see how much I could get out.

The sods right in the corner were trapped under lead flashing. Also were growing around a cable so no matter what I did from the ground I could not get all of it out. When I set me ladder and went up to clear the roof valley and corner I found out I had only pushed the slate tiles all out of place with the guttervac nozzle so had to put them back. Oops! :D

:DI have done a 3 storey gutter clear with my new ladders and ankalad / microlite combo

Man up smurf

Seriously though if it ain't safe or you don't feel comfortable don't do a job

I think people who do something while feeling unsafe/nervous about it are likely to cause themselves an accident

On the flip side complacency kills

Need a happy balance

If your gonna work on a ladder at 2nd storey roof level (3 floors up, in other words), then the ladder should be either tied to the wall or to the roof, and then you should wear a harness and tether yourself to the ladder.

There is no way you could work safely cleaning gutters at that height without doing so.

Just saying

I know i am an ex roofer

But i do take a chance sometimes..only since I have the microlite as it hold the ladder a bit more stable

I wouldn't do it on dodgy floors or uneven ground

Like smurf said before every job is a risk assesment

Im sure you are sensible as you have plenty of experience at heights.

If you put you all the written out risk assessments on the ground near the foot of the ladder, it will give you something softer to land on when you fall off.

I am experienced and am an experienced rock climber so know what i consider safe probably isn't other peoples idea of safe

Been doing it 23 years now and won't change

But i don't recommend anyone without experience to start doing high gutters etc without as much safety equipment as possible

The thing that worries me is newbies with no experience thinking they can put ladders anywhere and will be invincible

Then end up in a wheelchair

Used to do rock climbing and abseiling when I was a nipper, had no fear at all.

Many years and stone later, after many accidents over the years due to lack of fear I am a little bit more sensible lol

I spent years climbing abseiling roofing so have a head for heights

A lot of roofers give us a bad name though as seem to have no idea about h&s

Keep safe daveyboy1.

I used to do all sorts of daft stuff when younger, walking along ridge of the roof, sliding down the ladders like a stuntman.

But at 50, i am a lot more careful. Some say im too careful, but i dont care.

I tend to avoid anything higher than first floor roofline nowadays.

Good health to all you guys. Take extra care now that its damp an potentially slippy all day.now.

Never used more than two motors on my gutter vac, with 3 I find it just wants to stick itself to everything including the gutter itself making it hard to work with.

What guttervac does everyone use?

I have not got one yet, so am interested in the best one to look out for.

Mines got Viper written on it, I got it from somewhere online but can't for the life of me remember where, and can't find the bookmark

Depends if you are trying to lift sods out of the guttering at acute angles like that one bud.

It's relatively easy I've found to get sods out if you can more or less stand directly under the guttering as long as the gap between the tiles is wide enough & depending how thick they are.

I have had loads all 3 motor ones ranging from 3000 watt to 4200 watt.
