Now I am trying to find best torch to attach to my poles.I cannot see very well what is in black gutters.

The knog qudos action is £80 ish so defo not cheap but it has been designed to work underwater upto 40m too.

I may order one and let you know what I think

Here is a vid if anyone is interested (bottom of page)

You pays your money and takes your choice I suppose but it does have wifi which is a big bonus if it works ok.

I would be asking myself the following questions

How long would the battery last & can you get spares for it?

What type of memory has it got to store vid clips & pics?

Being only a low spec 5mp camera is that good enough for what I want?

Is that mount compatible with other stuff to be able to mount it either on a wfp or guttervac pole?

How would I play back the vid clips and look at pics I've taken without having it connected to a phone?

That is an LED torch. I like LED, but find that they don't 'appear' to work as well in daylight as as comparable halogen bulb. The reason in my opinion, is that the white light of LED is more like daylight than the yellow light of halogen. Thus you don't notice it as much as halogen light.

But, the small, light weight, decent torches are generally LED.

When doing gutter work I suppose the light has to be positioned in a way so not to cast shadows or reflect back into the camera or you will be no better off when trying to see what you are doing using the gopro app viewer on a phone.

Smurf do you have a set rate for gutters?? I used to price jobs on how they looked ect ect but found it to be inconsistent so I now use the price per meter method and seems to be working well at the moment. But when its a lot of meters the custy dont like the price and I allways seem to loose the work on price and were only talking £160 I think is the most ive said for a gutter suck. Thoughts please

I take into consideration how much guttering each job has only as a very rough guide as there are other factors to take into account then charge what I feel the job is worth to me.

Every job is different so I have no set prices so to speak off.

Not all but most will be happy to pay more knowing the job is going to be completed properly to a high standard & more importantly safely too.

If you going to go in high then you have to sell yourself and the quality of the services you offer.

I base my price on per meter, and how high. I may then make adjustments if there are too many obvious problems - plants and grass clumps growing, difficult access etc.

Smurfs right, if the price is big, even if it is because of a lot of guttering, you do need to sell your service. Someone will always be willing to do the job for less. The customer needs to base their decision on how good the job will be rather than price alone. £100 rather than £160 sounds much better… unless the cheaper job isn't as good and will need re-done properly.

I have also lost more expensive quotes where I either haven't been able to, or did a poor job selling my service. But, I would rather loose the job instead of under pricing it and thus under pricing myself.

Yeh I see what your saying Paul I'm usually quite good at selling my services but when it come to guttering people just don't want to spend that amount of money on there homes round hear ?

I charge for a gutter clear so just a Hoover £2.50 a meter and if there is bad acsess ect I will add say another £15-£20 and I try and sell it well by saying about preventing damp ect ect.

What kind of prices do you charge ?

Simon

I haven't done one yet, but was thinking 65 terrace, 75 semi, 85 small detached, then adjust if it's difficult looking/ easy.

I thought if I go up in fives, there's less chance of being misheard and someone trying it on, like 'thats 60' then at the end they go, 'there you are, sixteen'.

Would be good to collate prices insured professionals are charging and then we have something to work on. I have seen several 'gutter services' in my area being obviously uninsured dodgy guys with normal ladders, maximum risk, a stick and bucket.

Just bought my ladders so far, 200 investment. A 12 rung 3 x combi and a small interior style combi.

Prices will vary area to area. My base price is £2 per m on a standard 2 storey house for a normal looking clean. The price varies as the job is more difficult / time consuming / more blockages than average. That price also includes clearing blocked downpipes.

Regarding selling yourself, people already know they need them cleaned, that's why they called you. They need to know what makes you different from the bloke quoting £20 all in. They need to know that you are an experienced professional, who will do a very thorough job properly, with no damage to their property. And as for the cheap guys, well who knows what sort of job they will do [emoji56]

You then need to deliver on that! Also, it doesn't hurt if you also 'look' like you are doing a very thorough job as well if the customer is in at the time. They need to be happy that they made the right decision when handing money over to you.
