My cheapo ro system and set up.

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Maybe you did what I did and buggered up the first lot of resin by not flushing it all long enough, then I ran it all night without resin before finally adding the resin.

Well he has tap water @ 450 and produces 6 after the DI.Whereas i got more filters Tap @ 350 and can only produce 4 after DI
What tds do you get out of the ro before the di?

With a tap tds of 350 you should get about 15 or less coming out of the ro before going through your di. Your di should then easily polish the rest.

If your tds after the ro is higher than 15 then you probably don't have sufficient water pressure and could do with a pump. Assuming your membranes are new of course.

Will be adding a larger DI vessel and probably a pump soon, so I haven't bothered to tidy it up much yet.
It would be well worthwhile to add another 2 membranes in to your system too mate. Would make it much more efficient and faster to produce pure. /emoticons/wink.png

Yeah its on the cards, I am upgrading it as my round grows, for now it can just about keep up as long as I don't work too much on consecutive days.

I get 12 after the RO.

Ive changed the resin on the DI, but that only improved it slightly from 7 to 4

I can't remember now what it was, but I think before the DI I get like 16-20, somewhere around there, after the small DI I get 6.

I don't have much experience of the small 10" di as I use an 11l one but do you guys cram the resin in as tight as possible?

Especially with those tiny dis I think you have to pack the resin in as densely as you can.

Yeah I do, is yours similar to mine PTWC? if so are you sure the resin vessel inside is sealing well at the top? I actually had to add a bit of rubber underneath to get it to seal well at the top so water doesn't bypass the resin.

Resin should take any water down to 0PPM. How long it lasts depends on the PPM of the water going in. If you got 4 coming out of your resin and you want '0' you have got to change the resin. Its also best to get a bigger vessel so it lasts longer.

Not sure if resin will always get any water to 0, I tried for ages and its just not possible to reduce 450 to 0 with what I have no matter what I do.

Larger vessel is needed, and will be added.

Also, shaking the DI vessel can bring the PPM back down a bit as the water can make channels in the resin. but you cant really shake the vessel if its attached to the RO.

Yes its similar.

10" plastic housing.

Its interesting what you say about the inner part not touching to top properley, as that was a concern i had with mine.

Some water runs down the outside of the inner part.

Its impossible to do a better job fitting it as it is. But i may have to try what you did and add a rubber seal to lift it up to make a tighter fit.

That is what I had to do mate, otherwise it bypasses the DI, I just got a rubber washer I had lying about, but anything would do really, just to make it fit tighter and seel better.

Looking good mate, my guess is it isn't sealing well enough and needs a little something underneath.

Thanks for that diwrnach, i, gonna have a look at that tomorrow as im at home.

Cheers, ill let you know hoŵ i get on

It will mate it all depends on the set up. The bigger the pre filters & using a quality RO & resin you can get any water down to 0. I have 470 out of tap & never higher than 5 after RO + 0 after resin /emoticons/wink.png
