OK, so I left it a few days then got hubby to ring up about the van, the guy says yeah truck should be fixed on Thursday, can deliver Friday or Saturday......the whole week goes by with out a word.....hubby calls him Saturday, he wont answer, he calls a few times leaves messages, when he finally answers, you can not understand him as lost his voice, but the guy we needed to speak to apparently was not available...

I text him later Saturday stating if he cant deliver then to give me deposit back....I get text 5 hours later, saying if you want van, come and get it., you wont be getting deposit back read your t&cs.

so hubby calls him, no answer, but then get a text from him, so hubby calls him again, he answers with his craoked voice pretending he is from Pakistan.!!!!! few more texts went back and forth threating us with a bill to store this van.!!!

I rang him again this morning(sunday) he told me with his croaky voice that he was not dealing with it today and hung up, I rang straight back stating that somehow we got cut off and I would like a address to send correspondents to when I report them to trading standards/gumtree and the police. He kindly shouted down phone to me that I have to call him tomorrow at 9am!!!

I have now emailed him stating he has broken his side of the contract, I would like deposit back....I will also call him tomorrow.....wow there really is cow boys out there....rude ones at that...

theres a few similar traders in this area Shar ,

back when i was a mechanic i got to know of the dodgy lads selling sh/t with a respectable front. that reminds me,one of them is called Dodge. so tread warily even if you buy locally , a lot of sales places slip write-off repaired vans into the mix on the forecourt . some have family members who spend their whole working lives buying and repairing write offs [cut and shut] to a very high cosmetic standard , but basically shouldnt be on the road ever again

I hate buying vehicles,....................I find it hard to trust any car/van sales places.
Im the same m8, most (not all) lie and bend the truth , loads better buying privately

I'm still working.from my estate, but can't carry on like this forever ,keep drooling over vans on ebay and gumtree and come close to taking the plunge , just need to stop my wife buying **** with all the paypal payments /emoticons/smile.png

I always get asked to go with mates to buy cars and vans

You need to be carefull and check out what you are buying

I went to a car auction in the summer, the dodgiest blokes you can imagine. Some of the vehicles were almost dragged through the auction. This one guy, skinny with long grey hair and no front teeth, kept closing his eyes and putting his hand on the bonnets of the cars as they came through. As if he was the 'car whisperer' Every now and then he'd smile and bid like mad. Buying motors is always a gamble.

I used to go to car auctions with my dad and his mate

That made a grease monky, car sparky and a panel beater

Between us we made a bit of dosh buying and selling but lots of dogs went through the auctions also

WTF lol

At car auctions you get the chance to walk round and check the motors out before they go through

Take a magnet and check panels for filler

1 in 3 motors are said to be dodgy so a full vehical inspection & hpi check is a must thesedays or you are leading yourself wide open so to speak.

If someone has taken out a log book loan the loan is against the vehicle not the owner so if you buy the car you have unknowingly bought the debt

Don't have a leg to stand on in court either so mad not to check

Hope it gets sorted soon for you, its a right **** take what some people try and do, especially to women.

My partner got screwed over by a mechanic who claimed he completed a full service on her car, but when she paid and got it back i took a look and found some of the stuff she had been billed for wasn't even done.

We went straight back up there and after a bit of frowning and eyebrow wrestling I got them to re-do the service while we waited and give her a full refund.

its just a shame that you have to threaten to skull **** someone to get something done.

Part of the reason I have refurbed my van is due to the hassle involved in weeks of viewing, test driving, the distrust I have in so called dealerships. I felt it was better the devil I knew. Now it looks respectable I am happy to get another couple of years out of my 51 plate Transit.

I hope it all gets sorted Shaz. I feel stressed just reading this horror story.

That's been going on for too long now shaz, hope you can find a way to sort this.

Trading standards, police, rogue traders on TV, ?
