Unger 50th anniversary

Hahaha, yeah I'm pretty bored alright /emoticons/smile.png

Well let's have a look at the more functional modifications of my bucket. I know this bucket does look a little rough, but it's very old and it's been used as a guinea pig for various ideas I've had over the years...

You can ignore the rubber that protects the squeegee blade, but these white and green plastic tab I glued on are a must for stopping wet leg. Imo, this mod is essential for these buckets. Bear in mind this is for a left handed setup, right handed would have to be the reverse of what you see here:

Also, I shortened the bucket for a 15 inch applicator (18" t bar with 1.5" sawed off each side and a 14" strip washer stretched over, since I don't think they make these things tight enough and I hate it slack). This decorative cover allows me to plaster over the join:

On a side note, I use an aluminium channel in the ergotec squeegee. I use a contico hi-rise channel and drill two holes in. I would not go back to a steel channel now:

All very good mods!

All very good mods!
Thanks mate.

Today I've been modifying my friends Moerman bucket. This is a very nice bucket, possibly even my favourite now..

I don't know if any of you have used this before, but it's almost identical to the modern Unger bucket. The only thing you may not like is the swivel is very limited and quite stiff (I actually like this and even prefer it locked).

The belt clip attachment is excellent. The belt threads right through and it's very tight and solid. This is the buckets best feature, a bit like the sidekick or tubex (but done right):

Wet leg stoppers added:

Shortened, my only regret is I used a very thin piece of acrylic, since I couldn't be bothered jig sawing:

I like the way the Moerman Bucket attaches to the belt too .

Another neat job there 'Fenderjaguar':thumbsup:.

looks great fender! i was going to look into getting a spraycan of rubber ,to line the inside of my boab with , to stop chafing . im sure theres a product out there , or possibly buy a paint on type of liquid rubber in a tin

Good ideas, thanks guys.

Though my main concern would be whether this stuff is softer than the squeegee rubber. I use hard blades anyway, but the only way to know this for sure was to use the soft blades for the lining and hard blade in the squeegee.

Im very interested in ur wet leg stoppers on the i side of your boab, does this simple drag excess water off the applicator fenderjaguar?

These pictures should explain (left handed setup, btw). The first picture simulates what happens without the pads. You can see the soapy water which is pouring over the side:

Now the second picture with the pads shows the small gap which is created so that the applicator can't touch the edge. The water simply goes over the pad and back down into the bucket. This is basically the same inadvertent job that the scaper section does on the unger classic bucket on a belt (which is possibly one reason why that bucket remains so popular. And yes I know people still get wet leg with the classic boab, but the new unger one is better than the old one, once modded)

imo, it's a pretty much fool proof way of stopping wet bucket/leg. Some may not even need the pad that's higher up near the clip. A second pad on the other side is not necessary either, nor is it really possible, since the applicator does start to become slightly difficult to put back at that point. The bucket would have to be about 1cm wider to make ambidexterous.

You can make one of these on a modern Unger or moerman. Possibly can be done on the sidekick or tubex as well, but I'm not so sure (it's a very long time I last used either of those buckets). You can use anything you can find lying around. But I used the cut up/sanded freezer bag ties from IKEA (IKEA bevara), but you can also use a cabinet fixing point, like this:

http://www.kbbproducts.com/ekmps/shops/boyes61/images/modesty-blocks-363-c[ekm]150x150[ekm].jpg

You can screw those cabinet things in as well, you can see the remains of the old screw holes on the white unger bucket of mine. But you must put the pad slightly below the edge, like I did in my pictures earlier.

lol, I could write a book on this thing

Very good ideas

I don't know if it is the porcupine sleeve which holds less water or the unger ninja boab i use now which is a tad bigger i think due to the thicker channels on a ninja squeegee which i don't use anyway but i never get a wet leg nowadays

I like the ninja boab

Loads of room in it

Nice, 30 degree and 0 degree ergotec swiveloc? Pretty much the best comination of squeegees to be carrying around imo. I modded the 0 degree for the s spring and carry just the handle around in my back pocket without a channel, then switch the channel out of the regular ergotec, if I need it.

Actually, I was under the impression that the 'ninja' bucket was exactly the same as the 2003 white/green/red ones? And that they were making it in black and calling it a Ninja for marketing purposes. I haven't seen one in person, so I shouldn't assume that I'm right. Heh, I'll probably end up getting one now, since you've put doubt into my mind
