Regenerate di resin

After moving into a house with a water meter and wasting a few hundred quid going down the drain out my ro filter I started looking at a way to use less water, and I found online guides on how to use chemicals to regenerate exhausted di resin, the idea being removing ro from the equation so all water going in is filtered for use, thus saving a fortune.

Has anyone tried it?

If done correctly resin can be regenerated countless times.

Any useful input welcome

I personally would not waste my time as di resin is cheap as chips and lasts ages when using a ro system anyway.

All this messing about for such a small amount of resin seems nuts if you ask me.

Tap water is around 300ppm.

The 25l bag of resin would last about a week, the whole point of why I'm trying this is to eliminate ro filter, I've just paid a £550 water bill (for 4 months use).

Resin would be very expensive to buy 1 bag a week.

The chemicals r very cheap and easy to obtain and the process looks simple enough, I've done alot of research so the only thing I don't know is how long the regen resin will last, if 1 batch can see me through the week I will do it, it will save me around £160 per month.

I simply wondered if anyone else does it!

my resin for my RO lasts two weeks then the readings creep up to 008

all I do is stir the resin making sure the resin has plenty water in it give it really gd stir readings will drop to 002

done this all last week, do it again next week also

so i can get 5 weeks out my resin, works everyt time

freerider im on the south east coast. my tap water is over 300 i use pre filters and my resin lasts a while i use a 450 gallon per day filter and i get more good water than bad. Maybe a cheaper option for you would get a more efficent pre filter got mine for £150 this is the link if its any help. .https://collinswaterproducts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=111&products_id=151&osCsid=ce130e5533bb3b1409d7ba29ff9e8b41

Thanks...

Being that you are on a water meter what I'm getting at are you using the most efficient RO setup available that produces pure water quicker than the rest?

Also how much pure do you get through in a day, week or month?

if your on a meter is it worth it to get your water else where

friend off family then just fill your tank then straught thro your DI

thats my plan when they come knocking on my door

i used to fill up at my step daughters house till she went on a meter they told her every one will be on a meter by the end of 2015 and NO you dont get a choice

@Andy, thanks for the link, I have something similar but with larger 200gpd membranes (2of them).

@dunes, Yea I've asked a few people, most r already on meters and the others don't have the space for my storage tank.

My ro filters waste 3000l (or so) to make 500l, which is almost the amount I need each day (for 2 of us).

I use a beast of an impeller pump to pressurise at the optimum 85 psi.

If I was to stick with ro could anyone recommend low rejection high output filters/housings etc?

Thanks, so how long does it take to make 500 ltr of pure with that set up and what is your tds output after the RO and before the DI tank?

1600 pound water bill if your charging a sensible price for window cleans your driving a Bently or you have a water leak if i were you id check how much your paying per 1000 lt and then work out your rough usage and then run that by your meter reading mine is £1.201 per cubic meter and waste is £2.273 per cubic meter. and a cubic meter is a 1000 liters

I have a roller myself...well it rolls down hills just great /emoticons/biggrin.png

i run my pre filter straigt of the water main that 300 gpd one shoud give you the 500 aday that you need a 450 gpd should give you more than you need.

What ppl don't realise is gpd don't mean jack as it's the speed of production that counts especially when on a water meter. Most will buy the cheapest smallest ro they can get away with within their budget but is just false economy if you ask me.

3ooo lt waste to 500 lt good is not a good waste to good ratio if that were me id sort out the pre filter set up first and save money there.
