hi to everyone on this wonderful forum.

i am planning on starting a wfp window cleaning business that will also offer driveway, UPVC and gutter cleaning too.

the plan is to buy a van and all equipment needed and to go door knocking and leafleting on weekends as im in full time work at the moment.

i know it will be far from easy but i am determined to succeed and just wondered if anybody had any useful advice/tips that may help me whether it be on choosing equipment, marketing ideas or anything else?

i will have a professional website, vehicle, leaflets and uniform.

i am currently researching and want to make sure i give myself the best chance possible.

the reason i have chosen to do both windows and drives ect is so i can offer more services and hopefully be in a position to go full time sooner rather than later.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers, grant

I don't know what your financial situation is, but have you thought of going trad first until you build up a bit of a customer base? There are so many people that buy all the (very expensive) gear and then give it up after a little while as they are not making any money to pay for it. Even if you do go down the wfp route 6 months later, the ladder won't be completely redundant, and you'll have some trad skills to boot.

Welcome to the forum mate.

hi and welcome to the forum grant mc I ditto tolish be very careful its easy to buy loads of kit but not so easy to get the work...not to put you off but have a look on ebay and there are plenty trying to sell full vans of kit and ask yourself why..?

I want a lot of kit and ....when the job comes I will just go and buy it then....

good luck and keep us informed of your progress...

I've always wanted to give the window cleaning a go too, currently in full time hgv employment, would love to work for my self, and imagine the job satisfaction to be very rewarding. I have a small van, just need to get started. Any help would be most appreciated. Any advise on the backpacks I've seen on line.??????

daveyboy was hgv I think and now hes free...

I only have the cheapest backpack and its great for me..although I have never actually used it as a backpack just a trolley..I am relatively new to wfp but...I get dragged in deeper every day...even doing my big ladder work today with my pole as I didnt like the wind....although...my poor pole was full stretch and not like some of the poles on here...one day ...an slx will come my way...

I am quite happy at the mo with four 25litre barrels wedged in the seat foot wells and a full 20 litre trolley...but...you always want more..../emoticons/biggrin.png

my cheeky bar steward son today who is on nights said yes I heard you go out ...and I heard you come in...and there wasnt a long time between the two...bloody kids...

Yes i was hgv and van driving

Much happier getting back on the glass

And the plus side I didn't need to do my cpc

Money's alright on hgv, but have to sleep in cab twice a week away from home. I've always liked to keep active, so again the hgv doesn't help there. I've had the plan to do the windows in some method along with basic garden work for some time, got the van and yet done bugger all. Misuses thinks I'm nuts, I'm starting to agree.

I am happiest when up my ladders working

I tried the rat race of normal employment and won't go back to it again

Should never have given up windows when the guy i subbed off sold up

Thanks to everyone for their input. I hear what your saying about not jumping in two feet and wallet first. I'm still researching and looking at ideas on how to reduce setup costs. No decisions made as yet.

Unfortunately for me, I don't know how long I can stick my current job as its burning me out for what I consider to be little reward but that's life when working for other people huh lol.

I'm scowerring eBay daily looking for a bargain too.

I think my family and friends will think I'm mad because to them it appears like I get "good" jobs but they're not good IMO. They're just jobs. Its gotten to the stage where I may end up walking and going labouring on site as a short term fix which would be quite demeaning but my current job is pulling me down which is why I'm so determined to make this work.

Anyway,thanks again peeps

Grant

Nothing demeaning about labouring amigo. If it pays the bills...........

I've been doing this less than a year and I wake up every morning without that dread that comes with a job you don't like. If you put the effort in, it's good money doing something thats not bad, sometimes enjoyable. I bought all my kit for a few hundred quid on eBay. Keep looking! And good luck!

window cleaning is good for mental health and general well being. very rarely do u hear of a complete mental breakdoon in this job

Even in the rain I find it quite relaxing

Not sure if I would feel the same doing it wfp as i enjoy squeegeeing and being a show off 2 handed and no detailing etc

Can't work out how to show off wfp (1 pole in each hand maybe??)
