hi my name is Martyn and I'm new to the forum, I have got my own business pole and traditional. I've been in business for 3y but before that worked with my dad. He gave me some of his rounds and I've built up my own since then.

Now this is the question...!

Today I cleaned a customer, had them about 6,7m and they have alway been in but where out today so like I tell all my customers I will go over the fence or roof to get in. So cleaned the house outside and took there washing down as was in the way. They have now emailed me going mad saying I have trespassed and will not be paying....,!! My question is

1-do you do the same go over ?

2- do you get customers to sign a contract ?

Hi & welcome

No if I don't have access to the rear of the property it don't get done.

No I don't get domestic customer to sign a contract

I think the lady in question is mad as hell because you messed with her washing

did you put washing back ? i remember once accidentally rubbing the handle of a pole on a immac yellow bedsheet hanging on a line, looked exactly like a "dirty protest"

i always climb over , draw the line at 8ft climb tho

Every new customer I get I ask them if there not in can I go over gate. I mark there answer down. If its no I ask can i do there fronts only & mark that down.

I certainly would not have taken all the washing down unless you put it up the same way .

I would rather just clean the front and put a reduced bill through the door.

I once had a customer insist that I should climb over the gate to access the rear should he ever be out. I did this on one occasion and was happily cleaning away when the police arrived. A neighbour had called them. The officer and I had worked together in the past so it was easily sorted, but I decided I would never climb gates and fences again. This customer gave me a key for his gate after that.

They sound like arseholes. Be glad they've given you an opportunity to get rid. Bet they were hiding something too........!

Nearly all mine are detached properties. I've a lot of admiration for you guys that have to cope with accessing terraceseseses and semis.

Any customers of my who do not like leaving the gate unbolted, I alway check 1st if they are happy for me to climb over the wall to clean their windows. I've not once have anybody accusing me of trespassing.

communication is important, I always let my customers know the day before I clean and lucky for me most of them are happy to leave their gate unlocked.

as my ladder is a big un...I dont really need it doubled up so I split it in two leaving one section at the front....and not stepping on anything other than the ladder...

like others I would say did you put the washing back.?

funny enough I was on one today which is impossible for me to get around the back....and so I text her when I am coming so the gate is left if she goes out and I will lock it when I leave..

Its always best to sort access problems out at the time you take on the job...

but welcome to the forum Cannin not so sure they are a customer to keep though...

I text the night before

No gate unlocked no clean

Then they start to remember

Thanks people, there was me think I was being helpful taking the washing down (it was only towels lol) and folding it up so it didn't get soaked. Lol

Yep always ask if your out can I hop the fence strange as that's all I seem to do now tho at 5ft4 I can scale an 8ft fence faster then most people now

I always clean the rear be that a climb or unbolt the gate, must say though never have I heard of anyone taking washing down in the whole 26 years of doing the job ,its that what has possibly ticked this customer off m8 as it's that sort of stuff that is personal

It's when they catch you running round the garden with one of their nice lacey numbers on that they get the hump
