What is the best and cheapest way of going about creating a website for my business

No problem Kev. Happy to help.
iv had a vistaprint website over 4 years and its paid for itself 100s of times over . i read about their websites on a diffrent forum a sheffield windie wrote they were good , easy to set up if you are a dummy , cheap as chips -- that was good enough for me!what i like is that you edit the content yourself,so you can change it often as i feel fit, whereas you use a web designer itll be when he wants to .

i think i pay about 8 quid a month for mine which is 3 pages , i bleve its a fiver if you only have 1 page
That's good to know boar, cheers i will have a look when i get a minute

Trouble is a lot of web creator packages available you can get with hosting they tend to be very limited to what you can actually do regarding layouts etc. Most importantly are generally very restrictive for search engine optimisation. Out of all of them I would say wordpress is probably the best to build a site.

I use Yola.com. I like that I have control over the content and can change it as often as I like. It cost £17 a year for the bronze package.

one place to avoid is gettin a website with yell . a windie i know went with them and it cost a fortune due to trickery , he then found he couldnt cancel easily and when he eventually did they held on to his name .

wix, yola & vistaprint all have the downside that Google can see who you're hosted with & instantly recognises that this is a place where the majority of sites are small & insignificant - - this can drag down your ranking because you're on the same server.

I'd recommend getting a "lite" hosting package from www.tsohost.com and installing wordpress on it - there's nothing that wordpress can't do!

Forget a 2 or 3 page site - Google loves fresh, unique, high quality content so go 6-8 pages minimum AND update the blog regularly. The more content you have, the easier it is to get good search rankings.

Thanks for all that njones i've heard you are the man when it comes to such matters, i will reply properly later, a bit busy at the moment mate

Thanks for that mate, i'm not exactly computer savvy, but ran it by my mate earlier who is a computer technician, and i understand what you mean now, that's valuable advice, cheers

What NJones said /emoticons/smile.png Great advice!

an hour a day for a couple of weeks taking it all in, a bit of patience.

I just deleted my new site

I get more compact work on my doorstep by canvassing

There is enough work round here to build a whole round within a 2 mile radius

That a pity @daveboy1 as I think a good website is a must thesedays no matter how much work you have.

I was only toying with the idea when i started it but i haven't even made a dent in my local area and have loads of work

If i diversify at all into other services it will be worth it but as it is i am getting known as the local windie round here through word of mouth and my presence here all the time is getting me seen
