It's not difficult to understand that you just can't switch off a string or individual panels to clean them

The panel would have to be damaged though, the front of the panel hasn't got any current on it, you might get a bit of residual current on the frame but not much, the panel would need to be cracked or damaged in some other way. You can touch the glass on the front its fine.

What I'm curious to know is - if there's no current solar panel cleaning course available, the who trained Steve?

Surely if one of the manufacturers has explained how to clean their solar panels then this must be the best way? I'm assuming there won't be much difference (if any) between each make?

The amps put out by a solar panel is pretty damn low, and something like 12-24v per panel, the battery/inverter could give you a nasty jolt, similar to 240v house electric, but the panels themselves?

Also lets not forget these instillations are designed to be installed outside, in all weathers for years on end.

Wooden ladder and some decent rubber gloves and you have pretty much zero risk of electrocution, even if the panel was broken.

the information should be freely available to your subcontrators not them having to pay 238 squid up front. After all they are the ones will be doing the grafting not you smart ****

If I had a WFP setup, and was inclined towards this,I would be contacting the solar panel farms for work. if i wanted to baffle with a bit of bull:turd: i would mention my 'IOSH working safely' and first aid certificates, and my insurance. I would consider using a fibreglass hop-up or thick rubber mat to stand on, and use insulated gloves. I would ask for an on site safety induction with the site manager and maybe an engineer for me and my staff, and a copy of the maintenance instructions. If no maintenance instructions are available I would want the number of the manufacturer so I can contact them directly about the correct way to clean the panels.

Maybe thats neive but I reckon it could work.

 this is a long thread

well done solar steve for starting this as i am learning lots

good sharing of knowledge guys

Steve you should approach this slightly from another angle it's common in other industry's to do training courses to use a certain make of product the course may cost you £200.00 but once you make an order with them they will credit you your money back.

You should do the same, this is not a training course but a way for you to build up a network of solar cleaners as soon as you have your books filled will you still offer the course?

Sadly you can't monopolise a market people will still tender for solar cleaning with or without your training by the way I'm amazed there isn't a clause to say you have to be MCS registered to service/maintain these panels.

Your first problem is that here people are intelligent types. You can't give them a bit of bull. After that, your dominoes fall down really.

Hi Luc.

We already have the network of contractors. We have very holes left in the UK to cover. This is about promoting health & safety and unifying the standards.

As I have said in other posts, changes are occurring within the maturing solar industry here in the UK, which may well result in some sort of qualification being needed to maintain solar panels, cleaning included. It will happen.

I would put my nationally recognised IOSH certificate ahead of this 'course' any day of the week.
