cheers

Welcome mate, the answer is, I guess, it depends on your leaflets, how good they were at promoting your service.

We have ha several threads on here about leaflet distribution and design and if you bear with me a minute I will find you a link to the ones I do...................

Hello Chris70,

Welcome. I did a 2000 leaflet run when started and got 1 customer also. I got one conny clean too. The flyer was professional looking and could have come across as expensive. I have toned down the flyer and re done it and have a smaller flyer and more local based and that I take huge pride in my work etc and more person to person feel and I have put out 250 and got 4 customers, so better already. I dont think leaflets are best at all, they are good if followed up by door knocking. But if you get a customer then that customer can lead to more easily, so the flyer has a longer life to it.

I used facebook and studied it hard and looked at othr windys approach and what got what replies and noted it all down in to a chart (nerdy i no) but I then made a few words as post on the group pages on FB and really made a good feel message that I am a cleaner local and reliable and again take huge pride in MY business and that I offer a great service at fair prices and really worded it right. This post has got me 100 odd customers in 2 months of facebook, i tried the old method and got nothing to see if it was the way I delivered it, it was imo, the right advertising goes along way.

Facebook

Door knocking

leaflets

Thats my order of attack, I need another 150 customers and I will be happy, I was on here nervous as hell and started really in Feb after buying a wfp and have 148 customers now in 2 months, prob not the best ratio but its fast enough for me, so dont depend on leaflets mate, door knock and FB, best time for FB is 6-7pm and sundays 8-10pm goes mental. All the best. p.s I say all that but I need to door knock more, just get little nervous, but need to get on it asap, best way and took note of the people on here who advised me this too.

GOOD LUCK IT WILL HAPPEN, I was told this and stuck with it and it is happening:) Some good people on here, I am sure will come along with some better advice than myself:)

Scottie's advice is spot on and that amount of custumers in such a short time is an incredible achievement. For my ten bob's worth -we focus on gutter cleaning and the windows is just a side line.I find putting fliers out covers costs ish I focus on the gutters in the flier and also mention the windows. The way I make the money is by knocking on the doors very shortly afterwards. My leaflets all have my name, home address and landline plus mobile no. On-it separates you from the scallies and todate noone has knocked on my door-apart from the taxman;-) .By going in on the gutters you can get a good rep, obviously assuming you do a good job .The neighbours can always ask your customer what you were like.Plus although I have to bow at the Master of pricing aka Smurf, you should be able to get £45 for a semi for an hourish work. Also upsell balloons for downspouts, I do them for £5 installed, should put price up and you have just reminded me of the 7 foot drain prevention service that I mean to offer.Basically 3 stick drain rods down each gullley/drain to loosen detritus, I love that word, from causing any potential problems. And clearly report on any problems which you are more than happy to do then for a price or they can use their own chap.Gutter stuff not drains in my case lol .Final tip when they show an interest inthe windows, always ask how long is it since thet have been done.If more than 4 months explain how you will spend a lot longer on the first clean to get it up to scratch by cleaning the sills and frames properly. If they are a horendous price accordingly. Then say the first cleanis double what you would normally charge.Dont say that literally just say "the first clean is £25 to get them looking good then after that its £13 a month to maintain them." assuming your doing them monthly.Hope this helps.Impressed with your facebook results -I've always considered it to be the work of the devil but if you could share any tips would be appreciated starting wkth turn on computer......... ;-)

you need to flyer yourself to make sure you get the little sidestreets that rarely get fliers. the golden streets .

also buy a local street map and pencil in each street as you go. you will likely need 10k fliers to get a toehold but its good exercise. wear comfy shoes too

Scottie that's some sound advice mate and FB is really working 100 customers without door knocking that looks like the way forward to me.

What was the work like and a it very compact?

Face book is a realy good place to advertise especualy as its free!! But also u can keep posting about yourself and your customers can reply on it to so new customers can get feed back by only looking at your page!! Its another way of word of mouth. Ive got quite a few thro fb and if u have them around your way join all the selling sites to and keep putting yourself on them again its free and realy does work.

I am glad I can give some advice. I got good advice off Boarcity whom replied before, as he said those golden streets are out there. I agree also if you flyer 10k you should get a decent return, but then its what comes off the ones you get. I learnt as again Boarcity told me, if you flyer say 5000k flyers and you only get 4 customers, thats not the end game, those customers when you clean can turn into 8 buy next door coming out and then their friends asking also, so it is good really, but I feel FB if done in the right way is GOLD! Also door knocking, I have not done much and really am going to go hard next week as not much work on, so I will report back how it goes.

Its a slow process building but I have learnt you can do it and the customers coming in trickle in and it grows. You just have to go at it non stop. I sit on FB for ages, hate it but it works lol. I am flyering now and I need to door knock so I am hoping my customer base works out well with doing these two methods a lot more.

I just worry now seeing the fair weather window cleaners coming out, I see it in the mass now, kinda pees me off but then again it could work for us as it trains people in to wanting a window cleaner and when they pi$s off its us pro's that pick them up.

I actually would like to know from the guys whom no this trade inside out what is a normal rate of growth for a new window cleaner or some kind of trend of growth patttern seen? I dont no if my growth rate is any good or average or if I should be getting more customers or not, I started in febuary in the end after choosing WFP and getting that and practicing for a while and then going out to get cutomers. I still worry as I want to get to 250 my target of being fully safe money wise and then build on that to get to the target of say £500-600 a week. I always feel it will dry up and I wont get much more and scares me lol, I love the job so much and enjoy doing a good job and a good service makes you feel proud and the fact you dont have a limit on what you can earn....

All the best:)

Facebook is slow for me lately, it is ok but had no where near scotties level of success, i feel the same as you scottie, i know my progress i slow picking up custies, but just keep going as one day i will have a full round and it will all be worth it. It really doesnt matter how long it takes to get to your target, everyone i different some will find it easier other harder.

in the erly days you hav to dig deep , not give up. survival of the fittest well the ones who grit their teeth and press on . its a numbers game , think about it,if you delivered a MILLION flyers you know absolutely youd have over a 1000 customers . thats an extreme example but it makes the point.

facebook is summat where you need to be posting special offers, deals, everybody loves a bargain . iv usually included a free window clean of the inside of kitchen window only first time only. and on favcebook you need photos of you at work ,anything to catch the eye even photos of weird dogs youv seen that day

Hi All

Cant believe i have only just found this site. I have been WC for over 10 years now and i used to use ads in local papers and facebook but since i started using flyers and leaflets my round has increased ten fold. It really does depend on the look of your flyer and the leaflet distribution company you choose. A great looking flyer DOES get more new customers and a great leaflet distribution company will only amplify the amount of new customers you get so don't be tempted to go for a guy down the street who charges peanuts but may dump your leaflets trust me i have found out the hard way. I get 10,000 premium flyers printed and distributed by CLD cheap leaflet distribution for about £ 450 plus they always give me a couple of thousand free flyers for me to post as i do my rounds. By using this method of advertising my round keeps on increasing every month and i have had to take on new staff. I still use facebook but to be honest i don't really get new customers from it. Can't wait for spring as i will be increasing the amount of flyers being distributed per month and hopefully the phone will fall off the hook!

450 quid for how many calls?

I would expect maybe 30 calls.

I suppose it's not a bad way of doing it but couldn't trust that they would do the full 10k

do they do a single leaflet drop

??

i see people going door to door these days putting a bundle through the door

and tbh who is going to look through the bundle ? i pick it up and put it in bin straight away

wouldnt be to bad if they were only putting your leaflet in by itself at least u have a chance of them seein it
