Hi lads. Have my first job tomorrow really looking forward to it even though im still a bit weary on a ladder. Im working full time as a chef at the minutr but sick of the **it hours and stress if it all so looking forwarf to hopefully being full time self enployed this time next year.

Ive one question though.

Above the front door on this job is a little roof with guttering which blocks ladder access to the window above it, i dont have a pole yet and have this job booked first thing tomorrow.. what will j do? Cheers lads

hi and welcome to the forum

Tmile...good luck with your first job.

..call in at b and q and pick up a pole quick..

or...tell the custy you will do it next time or later as you forgot your pole...

dont worry too much about one awkward window..most people understand

sometimes you can extend your ladder way up high to the top gutter and reach it....anyway keep us informed...

Depending on the size of the canopy either place ladder to the side of it and do from the side

Place ladder end above the window

Do what cheap said and get harris decorators pole from b&q for 15 quid

5 metre so will reach

Or ask if you can do from inside as most windows above front doors are smmall enough to put arm through the gap at the hinges and lean round to do them

Hi & welcome @daveyboy1 has already mention or just leave it out

Let us know how you get on

Thanks for the advice and welcomes lads will be cleaning the window one way or another ha suppose its just all part of the learning curve.

Good luck with it mate. Theres plenty of options like all the ones given above. I like to get up there and do it from the inside, especially on the first clean, as getting the frames good can be tough with a pole if they are bad. Personally I think you are better getting straight down bandq and buying a harris pole, and while you're there, get a cheap 1metre pole too as this will get you out of trouble lots of times too. The pole is pretty much an essential IMO, otherwise you will be messing about a lot when you don't need to.

I couldn't work without my pole

Saves a lot of messing with my ladders when i could work round it

I am lazy though and don't like to use ladders if i don't have to

I got a harris pole that i put an adjustable end on which makes life very easy

Had to di windows above a full length conservatory yesterday so just stood on the 1 foot wall around the patio and poled them all from there

Or the other option that most go for on awkward stuff is to use a wfp backpack, trolley or van mount instead as trad pole work can take a lot of skill to master properly especially when having to pole on acute angles. Still trad pole method is a good skill to master all the same.

That's why i use the 0° and the adjustable crank to get the correct angle for every job

Makes it like a 5 metre squeegee lol

Don't you find that a standard 5m harris pole a bit short on some awkward jobs @daveyboy1 ?

Not really

With the angle it is about a foot longer

It reaches a lot further than the old optiloc jobbie

This is why i use the 0°

With the crank straight or slightly bent i can fan over obstacles but with it bent like this i can do figure 7 pulls down the window from ground level and the swiveloc makes it a lot easier to manoeuvre

if its any consolation @Tmile I am just off to do a new block of seven flats and as a new job....I am bricking it....always the same on new jobs...despite all the windows I have cleaned...but still ..once I get started..headphones on...banana swaying....I will no doubt be okay../emoticons/biggrin.png

and yes....I should have gone an hour ago...not a morning person..

Peeing down here cheapie

I have 2 new ones to do first but waiting for rain to ease off

Even i won't do first cleans in a monsoon
