Here's a story for you!

I have done it twice, not long into job, once once when I had someone helping me he had been using the ladders and assumed he had clamped them, no, managed to drive up through several traffic lights and up a hill, got out to take them off and thought wheres my clamps, on the back seat:rolleyes:close one.

Another time, was on a country road, all three ladders( a two piece combi, 2 section and a frame) went flying off around a corner, thankfully no one came round the corner, my heart totally sunk and felt stupid.

I dont use ladders much, but do try and put at least one clamp on the drivers seat just incase you get sidetracked, long conversation with custy, or making a quick escape after being paid.

been using these the last few yrs as they are quicker than clamps . on a previous van i had a small hook screwed to the roofline just above the window where these straps dangled in view when not fixed to ladders,so i could not forget.

these days theres 4 of us in van and its Everybodys job to check the straps are on

.Even if one is unsure did they fix the strap on,theres a small mirror mounted towards van front, facing rearwards,to check on the strap situation while driving -as a double checkerView attachment 4534

on a windies page on FB i saw a lad who held his ladders down using a very short seatbelt. this is an excellent idea that i have never got around to copying-but hope to one day View attachment 4535

after finishing work at days end i use a python cable lock to secure my ladders down as an additional measure. i could use this on its own to hold ladders down, its pretty quick to use but not quite as quick as lashing straps . one handy feature of the cable lock is it can be put thru the rungs rather than over the top and can be pulled down tight View attachment 4536

I actually don't like the rhino clamps Dave, I find them too stiff and cumbersome to use, I prefer well oiled winders, I just find them easier and faster...
when ya use them

yip happened to me but no damage done

sacked frank for that  but he loves coming back on payroll when least expected

had this happen twice to me so scary

ladders come off full set plus my favourite A frame

which got snapped as volvo ran over it so so lucky that day

nobody got hert

my ladders are now kept inside van
