Hey Guys,

I'm calling on the big dogs and the guys that have been around a while to give to give a truthful response. I've been a windy a year now, I've bought all the gear, wfp, trad, 9m ladder, sweet silver Kangoo, brand new clothes, cloths, everything. I've managed to acquire 100 regular custys in the year, besides the one offs and gutter cleans. but to be honest I'm just a little bored and uninspired!

I think maybe I need a partner to bounce off throughout the day or something.

Realistically though, what should be my expectations? I'm working 4 days a week, I want to expand but how many custys should I be aiming for? 300-400, what does the average full time windy earn in a year? 20k min? Just want your thoughts.

Thanks

I recon I'd want 250 - 300 custys to be full time and earn a good wage plus all the extra bits like gutters etc. But all depends on your outgoings and what you want to achieve in life. Ive worked on my own for 10 years and recently took someone on. One day a week and it certainly makes the day go faster and is someone to have banter with.

thats prob ur downfal mate

u brought everytthing in on go all new

i goin 4 years pt near 1 ft and im still building all my stuff up invested a bit then spent what came in minus expenses

get urself out and canvas pick up more customers

300 customers a month at average 10 quid is 3000 a month 36000 per year plus one offs - expenses and tax

i suggest you double your workload ,you wont be bored then . carry out a proper planned marketing exercise [doorknock, flyers, facebook ,repeat,,, doorknock fliers, facebook] for the next 6 months and no cheating and you should get there

If this is recent then it could just be the warmer weather. I'm usually fairly motivated but at the moment I just can't be asked.

I would be inclined to make a doctors appointment and get him to do a few blood tests as you could be anemic or have an issue with your thyroid. You could also have blood pressure problems.

It also could be depression that seems to affect people this way. This is how my son is at the moment and he is on AD's. He works with me mainly these days or else he wouldn't go out at all.

At the moment I doubt you have enough work to add a partner. Remember that working together doesn't double the day's 'takings.'

There are people (no offense meant to anyone) who get bored once they have achieved what they had set out to achieve. Their mind then starts on sometime else - my wife is like that. She would spent all day on the beach as a child building sand castles and kick them all down when it was time to go home.

I doubt you have enough customers to take on a partner at the moment. Remember, 2 of you working together doesn't double the day's earnings.

Hey Kenny,

Love these types of posts as I have 'moments' as well. But they don't last long mate and the trick is to do the opposite of what you may like doing the least (as the chaps have already suggested by increasing door knocking etc etc)

I am no big dog and not been a windie for long. But for me personally I never entered this for the £ but for the lifestyle. But this is a fortunate job where you can actually make good £ AND have a good lifestyle if you are patient in building up a decent round.

I've only got 120 absolute, guaranteed, no flippin messin around monthly customers, about another 100 2-3 months and another handful of irregulars that are still worth a few quid. I am struggling with my work load as it is but I know that I can tighten things up even more.

Can only speak for myself but I reckon 150 customers per month that absolutely do not mess about and pay well would be more than enough for me.

Find out what does motivate you and makes you happy (family, kids, £££, holidays etc etc) and use that to get yourself motivated at work.

But .....window cleaning is not for everyone mate and whilst I wish you all the very best.... you may be happier doing something else.

Good luck either way fella /emoticons/smile.png

I love the £££ but also enjoy the lifestyle i get with it

I got 200 ish customers on a 5 weekly round and a few on 10 weekly

I still manage to get a quiet week every 10th week due to 2 monthlys and a quiet ish week every 5th week and use that to get more customers or so 1 off jobs like this week

Can never have too much work imo so concentrate your efforts on that and you'll be too busy to lose heart

Bearing in mind my maths can sometimes be questionable......I think we're talking about the same kind of sized round (my goal being 150 monthly).

Glad others are thinking the same number as I hear the 300-400 number quoted quite a bit which I think I would find difficult .......but hats off to you fellas that do that /emoticons/smile.png

I want around 300 eventually or less but bigger jobs

But i am happy at the mo and still working on more customers. .no major rush though

300 customers divided by 22 working days in the average month is 13.6 houses per day

400 / 22 = 18.1 houses per day!

That's all based on working 5 days a week.

I do genuinely have a lot of respect for the fellas who reach those numbers and we've all got different circumstances, family lives, live in different localities (house sizes and prices) etc etc......but not sure i would ever be able to hit those numbers ........but you never know!

It can be a mundane job, especially working on your own, but the money is very very good if you motivate yourself, and that's the reason most stick at it...

If your a 'thinker' then this job may we be not for you, it takes a selvial lind kf person to work alone all day everyday cleansing windows...

Not sure I could work 5 days a week, week in week out just on the windows, I do gutters, pressure washing etc as well which breaks things up, I only do a couple of days a week on windows.

How's your 21lpm Loncin going @Diwrnach ? Could do with one these days as also doing a lot more PW jobs, and I quite enjoy them

Lol, does it keep up with buffer tank? At the mo my 15lpm loncin (also jetmac, but getting old now) doesn't ever run my buffer tank dry, was worried 21lpm would?

Mine kind of gets no lower than down to 3/4 full if the trigger is on for a long while, but that's about it...

nearly every job is boring at some stage. a while ago i read about knee surgeons , altho on a very good salary they nearly always left the profession due to boredom.

good thing about window cleaning you can reinvent yourself ,to stave off boredom- say you suddenly decide to be commercial over resi and just go and get the jobs theyre ripe for the picking if youre determined enough.

from what iv learned many windies are actually grateful that youve came and poached their work-cos they were bored as hell doing it

I'm on 350-400 customers & must admit get up sometimes & think ole back there again but once I'm out & get going its great.

Good money

Own boss

Own pace

Day off when I want.

Takes a while to get there but once yer do its good & you can pick & choose jobs & smurf up the price if yer not really interested. You either want it or not.

Beats working for someone else.
