I am at last able to start setting my van mount up (once my van arrives next weekend /emoticons/biggrin.png), I am ordering all the things I need, and need some advice from you chaps. I'm afraid there will be a lot of questions over the next few weeks!!

I will list a few down here and if anyone can help with any of them I'd appreciate it. I already owe you all a few beers for your help so far, I've got a lot of windows to clean to pay for them all!!

1. What pump & controller do you recommend? where would you recommend getting them from?

2. Same as above with pole hose - minibore/microbore 8mm/6mm what do you use?

3. I can only afford one pole at the moment, and am going for an slx, but what size? If you were to only have one pole size (for now) what would it be?

4. Same again with brushes. what would be the best gardiners brush for all round cleaning? until I can afford a few more.

5. Ladders - I am planning on getting a decent set of ladders for any trad work / gutters that I need to do, what size do I need?

That's it for now but much more to come I bet!

Cheers guys

Everyone will give different opinions,

But mine would be...

1. Shurflo 100psi and a any of the spring digital flow controllers (sold anywhere, there all the same but with each company's name on) you can buy from any window cleaning shop, there all the same so just find the best price... (Go with pure freedom though, as you'll be able to get most things from them, and there very well regarded)

2. 8mm minibore hose 100m from pure freedom

3. slx is fantastic choice, get the slx25, it will do all work up to 3 stories, you'll then want to save for an 18 ft Slx for standard houses as the 25 footer might start to get a bit tiring day in day out... (As I found out when first went wfp)

4.medium mixed hybrid supreme (comes free with your pole)

5. You don't need expensive ladders, I've always used 'abru' ones from b&q, they have lasted 8 years, you'll just need the double extension ladder, I believe the one that goes up to about 6.6 meters is the one I have, it reaches all guttering with ease and is solid and safe, but very light...

I'll let the wiser ones, such as Jake and everyone else answer the others, but I would personally go with an SLX22. It can reach gutters on a 2 storey house, so first floor windows easy. That should do most of your jobs. Then you can just buy extensions to make it any size you like (as with any slx). I just have a few extensions snug together, then when I need them add them on for that job and then off they come again. Means I only ever need the one pole. But the best thing about the slx22 is that it is a shorter length when closed, which is both good for storage and great for doing ground floor windows and in tighter spaces! /emoticons/biggrin.png

Jamiesmack, whereabouts are you from?

Shurflo pump

Spring controller

SLX-22 will do most work, but not all. Maybe buy an SLX-35 and buy end sections to reduce to a 22'

Dual trim medium mixed, free with pole

Purefreedom reel and 100m of minibore

A tank, big as you can carry within the limits

Connectors to rig the pump to tank and reel

The list is endless really as you will be adding to it all the time.

Hi Jamie

I would go for this pump and flow controller http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=321646951330&globalID=EBAY-GB here, all assembled for a decent price.

I have the CLX 27 Gardiner, and I wouldn't go for anything smaller, it's light weight, can do three storey easy. I use mine day in and day out, no back ache or soreness ever. My cousin had the size down, and had to spend stupid money on the extension pole to get it to the same size. You will regret going smaller because you'll have to turn down three storey work.

I use both 8 and 6mm, what's the difference would you say, Josh?

Any brush is good, I use the Medium Mixed Dual Trim.

No idea on ladders, I have a collapsible one cos it fits in my van easy /emoticons/smile.png

Hope that helps!

Jon

Is the strainer included in that deal? Don't get me wrong but it seems you're paying £40 for the piece of board. Source the pump and controller seperately and see how much cheaper it is.

If you are using ladders for gutter work i would definitely get an ankalad to go on it..leaning ladders on gutters is suicidal on your own

Hi Tuffers

I'm not too sure, as I got given mine from a buddy when I first setup. Would you be able to list everything you need to setup a pump? May need to do it in the next few weeks?

Still a newbie too /emoticons/wink.png

Have a search in the diy section

I'm sure jimmyboots has a thread for diy van mount

If the picture is correct they are also selling a screw in type filter/strainer. I prefer the bayonet one so the filter bowl is underneath. It makes less mess when you unscrew the bowl to clean the filter out.

This forum is brilliant. Thanks for all the replies. Il have a look and respond later, just on my way out for a few beers to watch the footy, just wanted to pop on and say thanks

Right, Ive had a chance to go through everything properly now. Thanks for all your detailed responses. @MrBump I'm from Mid-Wales, just on the border (the right side /emoticons/tongue.png).

@Tuffers any battery you recommend? is there anything I need to look for? I don't know whether to fit a split charge relay, or just buy a battery charger. Is it difficult to fit a relay?

Also, what type of fittings do you guys use?

A relay would take minutes to fit but you would need to charge the battery properly from time to time

Ahh I thought I had seen your van down south here, on the sunny side of the border /emoticons/tongue.png/emoticons/biggrin.png

Ha, we do have more than our fair share of rain tbf. /emoticons/biggrin.png
Hi mate,

I use a leoch battery for motorised golf caddies. You'll be able to get it from a local golf shop /emoticons/wink.png

The higher the amp the better. I have a 110 amp leisure battery, cost me about £70? I also have a spring controller with a charging facility inside it. So it acts like a split relay. I do charge the battery a couple of times a week to keep it topped up.

1664 for me please

1. What pump & controller do you recommend? where would you recommend getting them from?

Personally i use without a problem a 4lpm 100psi pump off ebay for £15 and a voltage regulator switch as a controller again off ebay for about £2

2. Same as above with pole hose - minibore/microbore 8mm/6mm what do you use?

6mm myself, 8mm less strain on pump but heavier

3. I can only afford one pole at the moment, and am going for an slx, but what size? If you were to only have one pole size (for now) what would it be?

i have the slx 22 and is perfect, there is the odd window its a stretch but it copes with all my houses, 18 is too short and the 25ft doesnt collapse as small

4. Same again with brushes. what would be the best gardiners brush for all round cleaning? until I can afford a few more.

superlight medium mixed or possibly a supreme which i havent tried, the extremes are lighter but dont last as long

5. Ladders - I am planning on getting a decent set of ladders for any trad work / gutters that I need to do, what size do I need?

dont bother, connys, gutter, evrything can be done without ladders, i just have a set of 7 rung stepladders for inside conny and geting to conny roof level, if you want to clear gutter by hand you would need some but rather you than me

That's it for now but much more to come I bet!

no worries chief

Cheers guys
