New gardiner pole help!

So my trusty fibre glass pole has started to annoy me enough to be replaced, its gone beyond adjustment and the sections either spin or are too tight to open.

Was looking at getting an SLX30 as this will be the same rough length I have and does me fine for 3 stories I do, but then compared it to the CLX and for what I want it for I think the CLX will be fine, most of my work is two storey and at that length doesn't seem a whole lot of difference between them.

Now is where I get dazzled by science, when I look at the order I have the chance of about 532 different goose necks and around 136 different brushes........

Which gooseneck and brush should I get? I currently use a sill brush and get on fine with it but never used anything different.

Also use pencil jets currently, stick with them or go with fan?

Cheers in advance /emoticons/smile.png

The difference between a CLX22 and an SLX22 is considerable.

My son uses an SLX25 which he can get to most of what he cleans. We have a SLX40' on the van for those couple he can't reach. (He can just reach the second floor windows of a Victoria house we clean but hasn't got the length for the same height window around the corner that's above a ground and first floor bay window.)

I think most find that the SLX25 is the ideal all rounder in that it can be used for everything.

I would rather go for a SLX25 than a CLX27 even when considering the additional SLX price tag.

I have found the latest Gardiner Supreme brushes an excellent choice. I like the soft hybrid but my son doesn't. He prefers the Supreme stiff. But he will use the CLX22 on the van with a soft Extreme brush when doing leaded windows.

Advising on brushes is very difficult as they are not only a personal choice but also round related.

I like the Gardiner sill brush but I find it a tad too heavy TBH.

We only have 1 customer where we need to use a gooseneck. On that one I have to use my SLX40 pole due to the height. So on my SLX40 I have 2 angle adaptors fitted together and that's enough to do the job.

Thanks a lot for the reply, I think I will be happy with the CLX, I have been using a heavy bendy glass fibre pole for over a year and been happy with that so a CLX will be night and day compared to what I am using now lol.

I only do two days a week on the windows, if I was full time I would probably go full carbon though.

Brush is really confusing me though lol

The CLX is 3 feet shorter than current pole and do have some third storey dormas so thought a long gooseneck might help with those as they are set back, I can do it with current pole but have to stand right back which at times can be awkward with one standing in the road and another sometimes cars are in the way.

if you can use a swivel, the long arm quick loq is great for deep cills, youcan get extensions for whichever pole you get if you find it too short

Looking at our current setup I would stick with an Extreme brush on the CLX to reduce weight. Son in law uses a stiff extreme on his SLX22 and we have an Extreme medium mixed on the CLX22. There is a big difference in bend with a Superlite brush on the end of the CLX22 when compared to the Extreme.

You could ask Alex Gardiner if its OK to fit an SLX base section 7 to a CLX27 to give you that extra occasional length when needed. But if that will work then you have to order a longer length of internal pole hose.

Even on 2 days a week I would always recommend getting the best pole you can. The SLX range are a lot easier to use than the CLX range. Personally I would recommend getting the SLX25 and then adding an extension on when needed. Each pole is supplied with enough hose to add one extension to it.

Brush and gooseneck choice is as you say very large. Which brush and gooseneck are you currently using?

Whilst a longer gooseneck would probably help for dormers, you would not want to work with too long a gooseneck most of the time. A 10" gooseneck is fine for everyday work, but anything longer is best used only when needed.

I would be looking at getting the CLX 27 which has 65% carbon on all sections as compared to 50% on the smaller CLX poles, not sure how much difference that would make? you can buy a single extension for it which would be more than enough assuming it wasn't already long enough, which I "think" it would be.

I am considering getting the longer angle arm and also buying the extension section for use on dormas.

Are the extreme brushes the light ones then?

Thanks a lot for the reply, the current brush is just what came with the pole, a sill brush but not sure what it is exactly, and it has a short angle adjuster on it.

Yeah I am sure the SLX is a much better pole, just whether I can justify the extra cost as I have quite a long list of things I am currently purchasing including moving from trolley to van mount so on a budget.

Hi Dirwanich

A CLX27 with extension is certainly a very popular option with our clients. The extra carbon does make a difference at these heights.

The longer angle arm is probably a good mid-way point. The Xtreme brushes are the lightweight brushes. It is worth noting though that whilst they are very much lighter they also have a lot less bristles on them than a Sill brush would have and they also have a shorter lifespan. Some find the compromise really works for them with others finding that they are not 'man enough' for the way they like to work. We do a lightweight Sill brush which would be worth looking at in the medium mixed or flocked versions.

SLX 22, best purchase I have made for all things windows /emoticons/smile.png) I have a clx 10 and although I did like it for bungalows for a bit, it is super light, but now I just prefer the slx for everything. Have extensions 6 and 7 so can can get up to about 30ft now, I leave them off and put them on when needed. I like the slx22 best as its got the shortest collapsed length, good for storage and good for ground floor. The poles are also a bit wider and easier to grip than the clx which feels as thin as a pencil. Also its a bit 'bumpy' when extending it, the slx is smoother. I also use my slx for inspecting gutters with a cam. I used to want a pole for everything, but not I just want one plus a set of extensions.

I would 100% go for a standard £5 quik-lok gooseneck. Its adjustable so useful to do top frames and sills and soffits etc. I leave it on now always and adjust it on every job, its super quick. I also have the carbon 45' 10" gooseneck, which is awesome and light and I really like it, works great, just miss being able to adjust the brush to vertical/straight up for bits on jobs.

If you are a sill brush fan I would go for a unger n-lite sill for stiff bristles (me personal fav brush I think), or an x-line flocked sill for super soft bristles, just swap out connector for gardiner quik-lok on both. I haven't tried any gardiner sill brushes yet as I'm bored or black/white brushes and want colourful ones /emoticons/biggrin.png (edit: I have used a gardiners stiff sill brush since the beginning, use it for cleaning fsg, not good for windows tho, unger stiff sill feels better for that to me).

Its all personal choice but I think everyone will agree any slx is better, wither way definately get a quik-lok adjustable neck, for a fiver its worth having! And supreme brushes are good, have black one and is my fav non-sill brush

Thanks a lot for all the replys, very much appreciated.

I am sure the SLX is a better pole but not sure I can justify the extra price tag right now, as for brush its not really a case of being a sill brush fan its just the brush I got when I switched to WFP and not had anything else to compare it to lol

Need to keep in mind I have been using that really heavy brush on a really heavy bendy pole for a year and been happy with it until its started wearing, a CLX with a decent brush is going to be like a Ferrari to me in comparison lol.

I got the stiff gardiners sill brush, only use on fsg, mixed might be better. Compare to other sill brushes, the 'body' of the brush is slightly different, rather than a curve or c-like shape its half a circle. Hard to explain lol.

Flocked are like split-ends on hair, the ends of the bristles are 'roughed' up and split so softer, more surface area, good for leaded windows etc or just for all cleans. Mixed usually has nylom brushes on the outer and boars hair / horse hair inside. Boars hair brushes are the best at everything imo by far, but they look like a brush from your shed shoved on the end and really really smell after use so I have relegated it to the garden /emoticons/biggrin.png

Only have a clx10 myself, its about as heavy as a wooden spoon lol. It's just be bendiness and stiffness at 3rd floor I'd want to try out first. Slx just prefer slx, feels more solid and 'pro' lol, clx is still good tho
