On tree this isn't an issue as there's give the ladder but when you put the ladder on window sills etc if you set the ankalad stabilizer and certain setting it stays at that and the top then shakes and wobbles as it is being supported by stabililzer not the sill.

Is it best to put the ladder on the sill or wherever then assume this is the angle height setting THEN adjust the stabilizer? I find also though the settings change when you walk up the ladder as your weight pushes the stabilizer legs down and this can then force the top of the ladder above the sill!!

Is the thing to do to have the legs slightly off the ground before you climb up ladder?

Its a problem you can get if you overtighten the strap. But using an ankalad for window cleaning on first floor is a bit overkill.

a ankalad stabliser is not for window cleaning its to mch faff and time comsuming seting it up i only use mine for gutter cleaning and not all the time infact it hardly gets used as its slow to set up if ur using it to clean glass on every house then its guna take u for ever to finish a days wrk, also a ankalad can b used 3 standing if needed as long as u dont go above the tiping point

You know how I feel about them tench...

Loads of us have been fine without them for donkeys years, there for old people, not window cleaners,

You can be safe without the faff of one of those huge things strapped to ya ladder!

that is one job i use it on as the tiles r slipry as hell an they slope away from the conny i have to clean the roof every 14 weeks an the windows above so u gota get to the top of the ladder to clean them

here is the foot the ladder on same job but its defo not as safe as the ankalad as it can slip a bit and come away from the wall as i found out once on wet decking:eek:

Another benefit of the ankalad is that it stiffens up the ladder when its at full extension, takes out almost all of the spring. Considering 14 people die a year falling off ladders its pretty irresponsible to go advising folk on here not to use some form of safety device when doing gutter work. Takes moments to set up, and you usually only have to do it twice on the average house when using progutter tools.

Your not using it for regular window cleaning are you?
Nah, not really using it for jobs where I stay working for a long time- I was using it to put putty in a window sill the other day, but like I said before the top of ladder is slightly off the sill (being supported by stabilizer, but I don't want the bounce!

Never needed one in all my window cleaning life... Not even on decking, I just put a ladder mate down or we use cloths...

Yeah we're not into Health and saftey - but not getting into that again!

I learnt with guys that were simple in how they worked, we'd either foot the ladder for each other, or use cloths on wet decking - admittedly it's risky, but my work mate has been going 20 years and never had an issue, and he's never ever used a safety device, sometimes you just need common sense and to be sensible with ladder angles etc,

Ankalad looks good, but for everyday window cleaning would slow you down by hours...

In the photos there slippy, that defo doesn't need an ankalad? That looks like a standard easy to work from floor

That's where the micro stand off helps as it would be leaning on the wall even though the ladder isn't touching the sill so it is stable

It's not for window cleaning though tolosh, I was chatting to boar about it a while back, he was saying that for window cleansing it's terribly impractical,

Yes use it for gutters, but I'm talking about window cleaning,

Although I've never used one for gutters anyway, and there's never been a reason to?
