setting up system

Hi have just got all my wfp equipment delivered yesterday setting it up soon . could someone please let me know how much I need the waste tap open. I think it is the red tap.just going over to wfp after nearly 24 years traditional. Thanks Mark .

Thanks for your kind words but I honestly don't deserve to be given any accolade like this. All I do is repeat my experience and conclusions from others experiences that I've heard and been involved with. I'm fortunate by having a mechanical mind and I'm glad that I can help where I can. As I have said before, people like Alex Gardiner have forgotten what most of us still have to learn and these are the wfp rocket scientists./emoticons/smile.png

Without them making wfp affordable, where would most of us be now? I for one probably wouldn't be window cleaning now and dare I say it, may even have been one of those fatal ladder accidents.

Having already fallen from a ladder, I'm passionate about the use of wfp. It stresses me out to still see cleaners using ladders as its a lower cost option. There are lots of posters on here and the other forums who offer really good advise to new ones. I feel its a duty we all have to make their using wfp as easy as possible as their life could be involved if they go back to using ladders.

We have found on our 4040 that our ratio of pure to waste is about 50/50. We have an inline tds meter so I tweak the waste to get the lowest tds from the r/o output (before di) after flushing.

Our tap water tds is around 120ppm so have found that this ratio works fine for us with an HF5 and 50 psi tap water pressure.

If you are in a hard water area then you may need to have a higher ratio of waste water to flush the membrane. If you are on a water meter then you need to balance the cost of water to the cost of a replacement membrane. In other words, its pointless pouring £30.00 a month of waste water down the drain to preserve the membrane's life by another year.

We upgraded our system to this 4040 3 years ago and the reject water is still 2ppm which is exactly what it was when we first installed it.

All full thanks again guys for your help. Cleaned my windows today looked very good apart from a few marks from the vents have to keep the water away from the vents thanks again .Mark

If you have a psi gauge on it, then close tap to full pressure when filling mines 60psi fully closed, then unscrew tap to lean off 5% of the pressure, so mine is just below 55psi when filling. Not sure what others do but that works for me, my tap TDS goes between 230ppm to 250ppm

I bet there only a few quid mate, just stick one on, I bought a fully fitted system so was done for me. But literally I only open that tap very slightly.
