Dry brushing Sofits

hey guys as some of you may know, I'm currently doing a care home FSG job which has turned out to be a bigger job than I first expected (well under prices myself on it, but I'll learn for next time) I've cleared the gutters and nearly half way round wiping down the gutters and fascias. The problem is the Sofits are big and covered in spiders webs/egg sacks, dust and grime, I was thinking of getting a large soft floor brush and just brushing down dry to remove the **** as it will take me a good week by myself doing it wet by hand.

Have any of you done this yourselves or is it a daft idea? They have never been done by the looks of it, and any improvement to them will be immediately noticeable.

Done them with wfp never dry but don't see why it wouldn't work unless it's the green caked on type, if it's dry matter a dry brush would work I'd have thought (if it's not caked on dried stuff). Only way to tell is to test a section and see the result

Cheers for the reply mate, looks like it's dry matter so hopefully it will come off no problem. I don't think they are looking for sparkling whites but for it to be cleaned down, they've been impressed so far with the work I've done.

Good luck

If it doesn't work you could try a wet soft brush dipped into soapy water then a hose down perhaps? Id guess hose availability/access isn't good though

Only water supply is at front of building and the building itself is about a Km. have a brush that attaches to a mains supply so will use that for the front of the building then dry brush the rest.

Jet wash the **** out of them if you have a tap near by, just borrow some power from them also

I would mate, but the tap is only at the front of the building and like I said the building itself is roughly about a Km in size, if each gutter bracket is 1 meter. The dry brush works to an extent so going to go with that for the weekend (said I wouldn't work weekends doing the Windows and stuff but need this job gone now!).

Did the front entrance on Wednesday as shown in the pic bare in mind that the light you can see is about 5m long. ****** off with the owner as the nugget just walked straight past me without a word! I even said morning to him. It's that type of ignorance I can't stand!

What about dipping your brush in some water each time, with a touch of cleaning solution in, might help with cleaning them up a bit better than a dry brush?

That could make it worse with no rinse available, just smearing it around

Looks clean in the pic

Had a go on the dry brush and yes it gets the loose grime off but again yes does leave a smear, as access to water is limited and having to be up and down a ladder every two minutes it's extremely time consuming, my idea for tomorrow is to be dry brush a good section, then cable tie a towel around my 26" brush head and run it over the section (yes doing it twice as such but hopefully it will be quicker). Doing the front carefully as that's where the visitors and staff are, but the back is an absolute shite hole (will take pics and show you tomorrow) so just going to be as quick as I can there but still do a good job.

Sad thing is one of the residents came out shook my hand and said thank you so very much, as the place was filthy and starting to look run down!

I think with your limitability on site there, perhaps a wet brush to clean up all the dirt you wont remove with a dry brush, then yes maybe a towel around the brush to buff up and dry off might work ok, just do a large area and as its nearly dry just go over it all with the towel idea.

Did the dry brush today, 6 hours with a brush above your head does not make for pain free shoulders and back!! Worked though and pleased with the results of it. Another day (6 hours) tomorrow and it should be nearly done!

If you have masses of spider webs and eggs then use bamboo.

Get a long piece. Snap an inch off the end and you get dozens of little bamboo 'splinter fingers' at the end of your length of bamboo.

Stick into spider webs and nests twist and it winds them up like a candy floss.
