Filling DI?

I filled my DI to bottom of neck then added pure water, when I pushed the riser tube down the resin seemed to make it difficult to get it to the bottom and so screw the head on properly, is it a case of just forcing it? Also the resin got into the threads. Any tips on this? I used a gutter hopper as a funnel.

I usually half fill then put the thr riser tube in

I then put a cloth in riser tube to stop resin going in

I use a homemade scoop out of a robinsons bottle push the riser to one side and fill with that simples

I fill it up as normal and push the riser as far as I can then jiggle the DI and push down on riser until it reaches the thread. But before you do that, just hose the outside down to get rid of any resin on the DI.

push riser tube in when empty , stick two bits of tape over the hole at the top of the tube to stop resin going down tube , put funnel over that and inside the vessel , fill until full

top back on and just let it fill up no pushing , tipping water in or any of that done in less then 3 mins

WHy hose the outside?

It just cleans it up around the rim so you can close it properly. The resin is not harmful to skin /emoticons/smile.png

Ok I will go with adding some water and wiggling. Didn't quite understand other explanations. When filled the 11 litre DIs, I was aiming to fill them to the beginning of the shoulder (think I under filled them a bit) bit lower, I guess just aim to fill to just above where shoulder begins then add pure water then put in riser and wiggle. or I could just measure out 8 litres of resin. Is it worth rinsing threads out with pure water; it gets all into them when I was trying to tighten up. Should you turn the tap on full so max pressure is running through them?

My in going TDS was 242

outgoing -0

How many litres before that creeps up?

I was going to add other DI when TDS reached 10! So using twin DIs.

Give the resin a good soaking with water, and rinse any resin away from the opening or it will get on the thread no need for scoops if you get a gutter trowel.

if your tds is that high and you use or going to use a lot of water get a ro filter first or you are going to burn resin.
I have thought of that, but I just don't have the space for it. I use an old lady's garage which I shouldn't really be going to as much as I do and store my tools in there. To put a tank in her garden would just be asking for trouble. I have a car so can't get a van RO and live in shared accommodation. It just isn't possible at moment. That's why I am going to run this DI until TDS goes up to 10 then add second one- so twin DIs. This is just a Saturday job.
