If I quit or get fired from my PAYEE job, I was going to be a self-employed window cleaning. Is it relatively simple to claim tax credits and housing benefits if you declare yourself. I think I wouldn't get anything for the first year (which is fine, as long as I get it), but how much would I get?

I guess this is much better than risking a court case by signing on and working just for £75/a week

So if you quit your job or even get fired from your present job, WHY do you think you'll be entitled to Tax Credits and Housing Benefits etc.

You can resign from your job and become self employed. Then claim tax credits. Check out

entitledto.gov

Yes you can get tax credits as i get them, as far as I no they go on what you earned in the previous tax year , I was unemployed so I'm near sure it went on that income, it pays to work and get tax credits rather than doing the double

Yes, I get tax credits. It does usually go on last year's money, but in the first year of self employment they let you make an estimate of what you will earn and do it on that, then once you've done a full year they start doing it on the previous year and make any adjustments based on how accurate your initial estimate was.... So you're better off overestimating how much you'll make so you don't end up having to pay them back.

I apologize to the censorship department but you are *******entitled to absolutely **** all!!

That's my opinion, all you are entitled to is what you go out and EARN for yourself!!

I am so sick and tired of people thinking they are ENTITLED - no your not! I cant wait for a government that has the balls to stop just handing out money cause people think they are ENTITLED!

(Disclaimer: I am not against the welfare state and do believe as society we have a responsibility to take care of those less fortunate than ourselves)

Disability allowance? Since when did FAT become a disability?

There was a bit on radio last year about cuts to 'child ta credits' someone phoned in with a comment, he and the Mrs had a combined income of £98'000 and had two children, they claimed that if their child tax credits were cut they would be struggling!

In what ******* world can a couple not raise two children in comfort with a paltry £98'000 ? And yet they were getting a handout from the government!

I'm sorry but I hope you get no handouts if you choose to quit employment and go self employed as it will make you pound that pavement all day every day until you have a successful business and you will be a better person for it.

Wooooooah mr green. There would be no tax credits for that income. You're thinking of child benefit. A different entity.

I see the problem as this:

A person earns £7 /hr

That's about £45 a day after tax....say.... a grand a month nett. There rent is £500. Council tax £100 lectric £50, water £50

Heating £ 50.

Running car to get to work? Maybe £200

Then they have to eat......well they can't.

It's the system that's ******. I agree that people should only receive what they work for but the system needs to fair. People need to survive.

Bring on a low income is ******* tough these days, just to exist!

What do you mean the double?

I earned £18,400 last year PAYEE. So I guess get nothing for first year, then get something! Could you get housing benefit as well on tax credits? No point going on poxy dole, I want to work- but it will be hard in the beginning and think this might be the best thing to do!

Of course, people should work and of course the system is f***k in this country!

You are entitled you have been working and paying tax. Your going self employed and until you have a big enough business to support whatever needs you have wether it be to feed yourself or your family then that's ok don't listen to the other **** people say. When you have a big enough business to keep you going then fair enough. Try not to cheat the system as its a slippery slope. You should have no shame. The reason normal hard working people claim is because of ridiculous living expenses. This is the problem we need to stop blaming the average joe for stealing our territory and our tax money on their benefits and start looking at the real theives in our government claming millions in second homes and luxury cabs to and from work everyday plus another £200 a day for lunch expenses. The list goes on but anyway claim what you need to survive and try hard to make enough money to finally get off the benefits and hold your head up high with a thriving buisisness.

I agree with this

This bloke is trying to get off his **** and work and if he needs a little help to get buy then he's entitled to it!

People on low incomes deserve a little help its the ******* ******* governments fault for making that the average working man or women can not survive so something has to give!!

green your looking to set someone on soon am I right!even if you pay £10 a hour that guy is going struggle to bring up a family on that!would you have a issue with someone working for you claiming working tax!because on that money they would be entitled

Unless we all start paying £15 hour I'm afraid the average person will never be able to survive

Iwas a fisherman for 31 years and i remember a winter where we could not get to sea for weeks on end because of the bad weather we had no money coming in at all for about 10 weeks i was self employed i was totally on my **** so i went down the dole office and asked if i could get any money because through no fault of my own i could not go to work the girl said yes if you have no income at all yes you are entitled to some money so i thought thank f..k for that she said all you have to do is bring your books in so we can have a look at your earnings over the last 6 months, i said thats no good because in that period it was the summer and we were earning money she said i know but thats all we can base your claim on she said to me cant you sell your boat to get some money i just told her f..k you and f..k your money and never set foot in the place again

I do not disagree that it is the system that is at fault, however, the word 'entitled' brings on the red mist.

Most of you should know by now I strongly disagree with minimum wage and always endeavor to pay the best rates possible.

All i want to know is how is it some one not 'English' born can get off the boat and by the next day have a house to live in, food on the table and money in their pockets when those born here, worked here, paid taxes here are 'entitled' to **** all.

The government must change, minimum wage is totally unacceptable, as are the rates of rent charged by slum lords to those on low income, the government talks about building 'affordable' housing, but on every street around here there are at least one or two vacant properties doing nothing, why not force purchase these by the council and give them at fair rates to those truly in need (not bloody immigrants and so called refugees that have not paid a pittance in tax)

A short story of entitlement is I had a lad working for me this summer, nice lad, lived with his girlfriend (now wife) in a home that was paid for by benefits, this was a three bedroom house and his missus and baby were the only ones on the books so to speak.

One day we are in the kitchen having a cuppa on a lunch break and I catch a glimpse of of a 'housing benefit' letter on the side. The letter was explaining how they had calculated what she was 'Entitled' to. Now shes a nice girl but never worked a day in her life, mum and dad have a five bed mansion and a fortune, so space for them there, the lad that worked for me his mother owns two pubs with flats above, so room for them there, but no, they are taking up a three bedroom house that some one TRULY in need could have used.

ENTITLED ENTITLED ENTITLED - That word really really infuriates me.

I am sorry but we are in a world that is so P.C. that if the government assist a middle aged, heterosexual, white, catholic / protestant, British born male then you are discriminating against everyone else on the planet so that cant happen.

The fault lies entirely with the government that is too $hit scared to say no to any non British people in case it makes them look bad.

So what word would you like the original poster to use when making a post enquiring about what assistance the government will supply while he attempts to change the direction of his life so that he can work hard and earn a good life for himself?

Yes you can claim tax credits, its based on income not whether you are self employed on employed.

I will be claiming them in january when my child is born as between me and r lass we will be earning little enough to claim them. In fact im looking forward to it as it should mean i can go full time with the business

If its there use it, every other lay about will do.

I think people are entitled to enough to exist on. No more.

I also think that hand in hand comes a responsibility from those in receipt of benefits (**** term I think), to look for more work and put themselves in a position where state help is not a necessity to eat and stay warm.

I have a bigger issue with those that are 'entitled' to tax avoidance. A giant in comparison.
