A dilemma of a 'Sold Round'

Earlier in the year towards the start of summer I sold of a part of my round on the other side of town, in an area I am not so interested in developing

To help out these lads I included a property I was on the fence about, an assisted living facility, 3 hours work per month £140 per clean.

Well I have had calls on three occasions from this home (as well as other clients on this round) telling me that these lads have not turned up, are very un-reliable and over all not very professional.

End of last week the 'Assisted Living center' calls me up again telling me that they have been let down yet again and could I chase them up.

I explain that it is really nothing to do with me anymore, however if no joy I will happily step in and get the windows done for them (with no real intention of this happening as I figured the muppets are just running late in the month)

Today I get a text from said lads 'Hello mate, can you sell my round for me, haven't done it for a while as doing other things but need some cash for xmas - will let it go cheap for £XXX'

I replied 'Hello mate, don't know anyone looking at the mo but I have had calls from people on that round saying you haven't been doing it which will make it tough to sell it on to someone as a quality maintained round it was when I sold it to you and also the care home is complaining that you don't go but I will keep my ears open'

He replies 'Cheers mate'

Now my dilemma is that when I sell a round, the money is only part of it, my clients are good to me so I feel a responsibility to them by selling them to a decent reliable lad that will maintain the round as I have. These lads have not bothered.

Now I feel as these lads are not maintaining the round at all they no longer have any actual claim to it, and I am not really bothered as I don't plan to work that area but I am seriously considering taking back on the assisted living facility.

I do not feel I am doing wrong here. I see it as no different to them buying a perfectly good pair of shoes wearing them once or twice and then tossing them out and someone else thinking 'oh those are still perfectly good, I will put them to good use'

Thoughts from the devils advocates on here?

i personally would not do it. its Karma , you go do the assisted living its the very place your foot will go in a rabbit hole and twisted ankle results .

How is it Karma Boars? They have pretty much abandoned the client and I still feel an obligation to the client as I told them they cold trust me as I was passing them onto lads that would take care of them, this has turned out not to be the case.

It is not like i am trying to take back work they are actually keeping up with. They have failed in their obligation to tend their client.

The client is going to look else where if I can not resolve the matter, the lads have pretty much admitted that they haven't done it in a while and are too busy.

So why should I not take it back? If I don't do it they will only get someone else.

I'd do it. If you don't someone else will but I would tell the guy you sold it to first possibly a little good will partial refund/drink for that one job...just as a good will gesture as he doesn't really seems that fussed just wants cash for Xmas.

I suppose it comes back to whether you signed a contract stating you would not canvass this work for a given period.

I sold a round once to a friend ex professional boxer

He totally let all the customers down and dissapeared off face of planet

7 year on I now clean all that round again and picked up loads more

It's in the most affluent area round me and is my best round now!!!

If there letting the work go to **** and not keeping it up then it's there fault

They could never sell work they haven't done since summer has a percentage off that will be long gone

Green do it pal

im not sure why, but [my own personal view] is that IF IN DOUBT,DO NOWT . over the years and certainly since being a windie iv lived by this . an example, its windy got up strong last 5 minutes but theres only one more house to go - DONT DO IT [ladders] go and find a pole

another example - gut feeling tells you this new customer is likely a messer , FAR better to cancel BEFORE you actually go and do the clean

A contract does exist and states 'as long as Mr Mxxxxx maintains the round on a monthly basis' he to a degree has breached the contract.

If he wants some cash for x-mas as we all do why does he not just go and do the windows?

You can only do so much with certain people.what should be a simple task ie buy a round, work it,collect payment some people seem to make hard work of it.

I know some one who sold a round and six months later the buyer gave him the round back for virtually free.

If I was you I would let the lads no the situation one last time and that you keep getting calls and if they don,t service it soon you will ,as this is now starting to reflect on your company name

Another option is offer them a really low price to take the work, work for a bit then sell on.

I think if there is no clear breach of a contract on your behalf, you should call in to this client and have a chat. That is if you are comfortable with explaining why you sold them off. If they are happy, go for it.

I'm amazed someone would buy a round and then not work it.

Do it before someone else does. Tell the lads first though?

I have since starting this thread phoned the lads in question. Told them outright that I will revisit all clients tomorrow and those that are still happy to have me I will pay 1 x clean. No more. If they don't want my offer and still don't do the work themselves I will re-canvass it in January.

He has said he will sleep on my offer and let me know tomorrow.

Sounds the fairest way. Make sure you get that in writing and cover all bases!

The assisted living place sounds like it might be worth having and it would appear you might like to take it back on yourself. I would buy that one job back off them at the rate you sold it at (minus the admin/inbuggerance fee). Everyone's a winner.
