Anyone fitted a immersion heater to their tank..?

There not there to stop my van from freezing, that's what my oil filled radiator is for. They are there to warm the water
Yeah, but what I'm saying is that a 3kw immersion heater will do both as the tank heats up enough to heat the whole back of the van also. Two birds, One stone an' all that..

You may be right, but I'm old and now stuck in my ways . Just thought id post what I do

3KW immersion heater is fine if you can 'plug in' overnight.

I'm thinking aquarium heaters x2 at 300w each as they can run from a battery bank - also not to make water hot, just to prevent freezing, if you can keep it around 10 degrees then I think (I could be totally wrong as I am not a techy chap) then it would help prevent pump freeze (mine is on side of tank) and also a 500L tank at 10 degrees should keep the rest of the inside of the back of the van at a degree or two when the outside of the van temp is minus 3 or 4 degrees ?

But that is all speculative.

Don't want my thank water hot. I use the gas heater to heat the water post pump

It's not going to stop the rest of your stuff from freezing though is it. Might stop the tank.
No I use a wall mounted heater on a thermostat the keep the van nice and warm, the fish tank heater was something @steve garwood mentione don this thread a bit further up, and I thought it was decent idea as a extra source of protection for a full tank of water.
