It's all in writingThe customer was informed in writing it would be used to cover costs and the original bill of a couple grand and it was done legally

He has now had a log book issued in his name by the dvla

The car was never picked up from the garage by the customer

We reckon he just left it as the bill was high
Ahh, bit different that, you gave the impression (to me at least) that he went an took the car off the chap as he hadn't paid, not that the chap had simply abandoned it and ignored him.

Dave said he avoided calls and letters so not misleading really /emoticons/wink.png

If you had read what I was saying correctly I was not disputing that the chap had ignored Daves friend I was saying that from his first example I was under the impression that the client had got the car back and then ignored him, not that he simply never collected the car!

I don't think in the history of the earth anyone has taken a vechicle away from a garage without paying lol.

No worries. Let's keep this thread on track /emoticons/wink.png

@boarcity you may know the answer to this

Am i right in assuming as i have hydraulic lifters iny cylinder head i will have trouble starting the car when it's done unless i compress each one and squish all the oil out of them before refitting them and the rockers on top?

i wouldnt mess with them cos if theyre old they might not work again . im pretty sure that when you pull the head bolts down theres always a little valve clearance. check by wiggling the rockers to be sure

its so long since i did that job i forget now, i DO remember squishing the lifters but dont think i did it as routine, might be wrong im not sure now. i think if you put the same lifter where it came from you will be ok. dont mix em up!

The rockers are the ones that just sit on top with the cup bit on the top of the lifter and the cam holds them on with no bolts or anything to secure them so i would reckon the cam will squash them to where they need to be then as i tighten the head down

followers is the right word [not rockers]

i Do remember once squishing a whole set and on startup one or tother wouldnt refill with oil which meant using a special tool to remove cam, follower and then lifter. a real pain in the ass!

after that anytime i did that job i used to carefully remove the lifters and stand them to one side upright in a line. never had a problem if kept upright in order

I mixed them up by accident when i degreased everythinng to get rid of the "salad cream" i had everywhere due to the head gasket letting water in to the block

I think I'll use my brains and fit them in where they look right as the head is all marked up to go back on all timed up which is exactly how i took it apart so nothing has moved

Dad was an auto electrician and his best mate was a diesel fitter

I grew up around cars and those 2 buying and repairing cars for a profit

It's one of those things that is easy to pick up if you grow up watching and helping

if youve mixed em up youre goin to be in a right muddle if you get an exhaust one switched with an inlet. im tryin to think what id do........ you could measure them ,put em all in a line so you get 4 matching . the exhaust ones should be a little shorter [i think!]

if you cant get 4 matching safest gamble will be to squish all of em and hope upon hope they fill up with oil

I'll give it a go

They're all 100% identical which is why i first thought of compressing them so they should all refill and go to the correct size

learning young is good job

Just looked on vxon vauxhall owners group and they reckon if I prime them in clean oil by squashing in and out a couple of times and then make sure the oil holes line up with the ones in the head they will be fine wherever i put them

Phew

i bought a laguna estate as i learnt very little about cars when young

its a pile of :turd:
