Don't mind collecting once a week.All local & nice to meet them

What do you call local mate? Most of my work is 40 minute all round trip plus the time it takes me to actually collect them

3.4% plus 20pence charge on each transaction

Gocardless 1% per transaction across the board

I stopped collecting prob 15 - 20 years ago

Got one stroppy cheque through post minus price of a stamp ! Oh and she sacked me too for asking her to post money !

My collecting now is sat in bath , glass of vino , sending text reminders to pay

So with go card less mate when I send the payment does the customer have to accept it or is it automatic? And am I able to change the price each time on the payment?

i remember my 1st year as a windie i worked below the radar and it was cash only, wouldnt take a cheq . it was utter madness! i must av clocked up more miles than a taxi doin the collections took 8 hours each saturday . and still i never got it all

I take cash if its offered, cheques if they are posted. Don't get many cheques these days and the ones that do arrive seem to be from C.Hoare & Co Independent Bank. Most however is via bank transfer.

Started my business with no intentions of ever collecting, it's worked fine, quite a few liked the idea I would be one of the few in my area that did not come knocking in the evenings.

My rules are cash on all first cleans, hidden if not home "No exceptions or it does not get done" on-going cleans cash hidden or given to me if home, if not it's a payment slip with online bank details, paypal or info on setting up GoCardless, all payments within 5 days, it goes 6 days they get a text reminder to pay, normally does the trick. Never clean again until there account balance is zero.

I've never collected either, I would have given up in the first month of that was part of the deal. I dont mind working hard in the day, but my evenings are my own. PayPal sucks but I would never ask people to pay by gift, seems a bit naff to me when you can just add a pound to the quote without them noticing. It's just the cost of doing business.

This is what I will be reducing mine to, my debt list at any point is £800 - £100 and that does not worry me as I know they will pay so I think of it a bit like a savings account so why not just have a savings account and put that money in there?

The push starts tomorrow and if they don't like it they can live with dirty windows.

What way do you work it now mate

bacs,cheque in the post,cash in the post. the 1st yr i did cash in the post ,some went missing .several customers told me theyd sent it -ordinary folk not chancers it amounted to about 50 quid then it stopped happening --- im pretty sure a postman who lives locally was behind this ,because some time later he made a sarcey comment about My money to my missus on the doorstep. he then was transferred onto a different round - maybe he felt bad about the theiving as he later took me on as his windie. i made sure his price was higher than normal
