100 + 100 meter hose?

It seems like I won to clean windows on a whole holiday park. I was wondering if anyone tried this before. I would like to attach +100 meters of 8mm hose to my existing one to be more flexible as the park is huge. I wouldn't like to waste my time to park my van closer all the time. I have a backpack as well - my mate will help to do this massive project. Do you have any experience or opinion with this long hose?

I may be wrong but I believe that connecting two 100 meter hoses together will increase the strain on the pump as it needs to push the water that much further before it exits the pole.

I also believe you will end up annoyed at winding up and snagging 200 meters of hose all day and will just end up moving the van every half hour anyway.

Congratulations on winning the contract though. Hope you got the price you wanted.

I guess you could link two 100 meter reels together but the poor pump will be under a lot of stress. Managing 200 meters of hose will be more difficult. @Green Pro Clean Ltd got to reply first but I agree with his sentiments. (I have linked a 100 meter and a 60 meter minibore hose together but wasn't happy and I've only done it once.)

I'm surprised that you are asking for advise after you have obviously quoted. All the logistics of how to clean the site should have been considered before quoting as access issues will increase labour time which will need to be accounted for in the quote.

Parking at a center point will give you a radius of 100 meters in any direction. Then move the van. I would tend to complete one street at a time both sides. So park down the street and unreel back up and then work toward your van and then past it in the other direction. If your mate is using a backpack then he won't want to be too far from the van to refill and I believe his using a backpack will complicate issues.

I would forget the backpack and add a second hose reel (you got one of those), pump and controller. So you could start at one end (the corner) and your mate start at the other and work back to meet up at the center where your van is. (My son mainly uses a backpack for residential, but when we do a large commercial cleans, then he uses his hose reel as it is much easier. We tend to work each side of the van meeting up in the middle.) If you only have a one man system, then this is where you would have needed to include equipment upgrades in the price so you could do job efficiently.

If this is just a one off then I hope you have priced it accordingly. If its a regular clean then the first few cleans are going to take longer as you will be trying to find the easiest way to do these for future cleans.

I would make sure you and your mate have a list of each holiday home/flat/caravan on the property and tick them off as they are completed to ensure none are missed.

Just to re-iterate my point on backpacks possibly being easier than van mount even on this kind of work, the Residential property I do I use 30 metres of hose on all 4 sides of the building so I cover 60 metres of work at a time left and right, we did try using reel from the van twice you can't drive the van round 3 sides as there is no driving access it was okay along the front of the building, we could of drove round the back and passed the hose through railings but when you factor in moving the vehicle and setting up again backpack would still be quicker even when you refill the backpack it takes one minute to fill a backpack, there are obviously benefits with van mount but I suspect some believe incorrectly that van mount is nearly always the way just because backpack wasn't tried.

Just to legitimise this there must be plenty of occasions when a one band turns up at a property parks on a drive then reels out the hose to do the front, when going to do the front you then have the choice of dragging a hose through a house which doesn't sit comfortably with me or reeling the hose in then getting a backpack out this surely is time consuming. I had a road of all fronts we reeled from the van but when backpack was used we still found it was quicker, there were parking issues with cars parked where we wanted to park, corners of fences, snagging on tyres and cars in front of windows, then you've got to keep an eye on dog poo and in winter if you want a dry vehicle you have to reel in and dry your hose and move the van again anyway. I didn't choose to backpack only it was carefully experimented with and I'm not saying it's the only way by any means all I'm saying is those with big vans may benefit more from using them more even if they have van mount, trolley and backpack on board. I have adapted mine now so I can have it on a trolley with a reel, or I can remove the reel and use 10 or 20 metres and connect it up quickly. If you get the right trolley with a long toe plate you can even carry spare water.

it takes one minute to fill a backpack
You got a pump in your van that will do 20 liters per minute?
Also we don't know how these 'houses' of yours are built @Poles Apart, over here it is mostly 'Semis' that have a side access alley to the back pf the property so no need to move the van, and most houses are typically cleaned all the way around needing no more than 40 - 50 meters of hose from the van.

No I've got 2 arms and camping containers that I empty manually they are slimmer and don't swirl around as much as them car wash things lol they are well worth the £12 each, it's horses isn't it I don't have a big van and use my vehicle for domestic use and tow a folding camper so I like to adapt the vehicle to suit, if I had a big van I'd probably cover all angles but I don't at this time envisage a time when I will need it, I'd say 80% of my work is more suited to my backpack set up and there are 2 of us using them.

I fill my back pack from the tap on bottom of 500l tank much quicker than a pump but still takes a minute or so.

But my setup's different I have pressure washer attached to tap and use tap to fill up buckets and stuff my pump inlet goes in through top of tank

If you drop a bilge pump in tonthe tank and connect that up it will take seconds to fill a backpack

I agree with poles apart

Depending on the area you work

I have so many access issues that a couple of backpacks filled ready to go wouldnbe easier on most of my jobs due to having so many alleyways further up the terrace to gondown to access the backs and a lot of through the house jobs

My trolley and 2 backpacks would cover all my work

I've a 35 liter trolley as well as my van mount 35 liter does a hell of a load of Windows sits in street with 80 meter hose attached gets me anywhere with access probs

Yes agree we all carry backpack in our vans we have many access problems in certain areas so always comes in handy. They also don't take long at all to fill

Yes a backpack comes in handy for going through houses etc, I use mine every now and then, but given the choice between a backpack or my van mount, it would be the latter without hesitation. Just my opinion
